    Wounder Why?

Have any of you sat and looked at your Mego's and just wondered, "Why am I buying toys to sit and do nothing?" For some reason I just moved my small collection of Mego's and now that they take up two shelves I am wounder why have I spent so much money on toys that just sit on a shelf and do nothing. I am new to collecting and have just a few compared to some of you. I was like two seconds away from taking pics and selling all of them, even the ones that just came in yesterday. I am a compulsive buyer and jump from hobby to hobby and seem to go over board when I get started and then regret spending so much money. The wife walked in and asked what I was deep in thought about and I told here how I was feeling and she said well look at all the custom guns you have and all the Mego's together didn't cost as much as one of them. I was relieved a little and when I thought about all the fun I have had and the friends I have made on here I guess she was right. I think I am going to make a Mego budget each month and stick to it to keep me in check. I have talked to a few of you that have gone through this, or needed money and sold and then tried to get them all back later and you loose money in the process. Well I am just venting and was just curious if any of you have felt or thought the same way and what you did in the end. Did you stick with it or just sell it all off and say the hell with it.

And by doing this it allows me to see the stuff I have without it taking up space.
      Hope that helps Kevin!
That's a neat piece of advise! I put a lot of effort in my photos, too...and I do post them someplace where I can easily access them...so if I'm craving to see it again I just log on...It's almost like instant gratification, the next best thing to holding the toy (like when I'm stuck at work, for instance, and cannot physically hold the toy.)...

Plus, if I work on a commission, photos are the only remembrance of it for me after I send the item along its merry way...

I go through this often. I keep fighting the urge to purge some stuff. Last time I did that, I regreted about half of what I unloaded and bought it back. The other half I don't miss at all.

I'm not one to switch hobbies like some. For some, the hobby is in the act of collecting itself. Once the collection is completed, they are bored with it. Nothing wrong with that, it's just what that person enjoys. It's actually better IMO if they can get rid of what they just collected when they start on something else. Otherwise it becomes just so much stuff in boxes.

For me though, I like to see the stuff I have. Sometimes though it's kind of overwhelming and I want to clean house. It's not just toys though. There are books on my shelf I can't imagine reading again. Reference books that my wife wants to keep, although why I don't know, all that information is a click away on the internet.

So for me it's not just toys, it's "stuff". The stuff you accumulate over time, and the older you get the more "stuff" you have just sitting around taking up space and crowding you. Sometimes when I look at the toys I see "stuff" that could go. I don't look at it as money just sitting on the shelves anymore, just stuff taking up space. That's not all the time, and it's not even often, but that feeling comes around now and again. Usually before I can act on it something comes around that re-sparks my Mego interest and I can't imagine how I could have even considered purging my toys.

Going through s bit of it right now actually because I'm buying my first house and I worry about the money I need up front. There are items I've had since my childhood though that have a place in my heart that I will never get rid of. I looked at my comic book collection just the other day and I'm thinking now would be a good time to get rid of them. I'll keep a select few but I think I could put the money I make off them into the new house and be happy with my decision as I've wanted my own house since I can remember.

Its not about money for me I make great money and can afford to buy what ever but I just felt like "why am i doing it?" weird I guess but now that the stupid wore off I realize that its all about having fun and meeting new people and also investing in a toy that "should" go up in value. thanks guys for the encouragement and I am now feeling much better why I am doing this and to tell you the truth its more about you guys than the toys. I value friends more than a toy any day. Thanks for helping me and also teaching me why I am apart of this and looks like I will be for many years to come. Thanks so much. Now off to ebay

I wouldn't call it stupid as much as sad that it has to come to that for some people, especially if it's something they truly enjoy and hate to part with...
What's worse is when the potential buyer pretty much rips the seller off acting like they're doing them a favor buying the stuff because they know the seller is in a tight spot and "has" to sell...

But sometimes in life things like that can't be helped...

While there are a FEW of my toys that are just for display, the majority of them get played w/ by me and the kids I babysit. I think now the only remorse I'd feel is buying something that I really don't have room for. My toyroom is pretty full, but it's nice looking, and I don't want it to look junky.
