What did your childhood Megos sound like?

When we were kids, playing with our Megos, did you imagine a particular sounding voice for them. For example, did your Kirk and Spock sound like Shatner and Nimoy, or something different? Did Batman sound like Adam West or more like one of the cartoon versions? I still remember playing with my Mad Monsters and imagineing they sounded like the Groovy Goulies !
I bring this up because I overheard my sons playing with their Star Trek figures, with my middle son being corrected by his older brother about how his EMCEE Klingon didn't sound like he was supposed too. When my middle son plays Megos he makes up goofy sounding voices and drives my oldest son crazy because he watches Trek with me all the time!

Any good memories out there gang ?
    Chris

    Keepin' it Mego-ey !

I Must say. . .that I had never thought of this before. My brother and I used to play with them together - and we just used our voices (perhaps adapted, a bit rougher or lower pitched), and narrated. I think that was enough for us. Interesting thought to ponder. . .

      Wow! Great Topic!

I was (and remain) an exclusive MEGO Bat-character player as a kid.

I guess I was HEAVILY influenced by the MEGO Batcave TV commercial which gave the characters very similar voices to Adam West and Burt Ward.

For the villains, it seems that the TV commercial made very little attempt to match the vocal styles of The Joker and The Penguin.

But when I played with my villains, the TV series actors was who I copied.

My MEGO Joker laughed exactly like Caesar Romero. And my MEGO Penguin was every bit as pompous and gravelly-voiced as Burgess Meredith!

The topic actually brings back a most pleasent memory from about 30 years ago (!):

One afternoon, while I was playing with my MEGO Batman and Robin and Batmobile, my dad overheard me doing the voice for The Batman said, "Wow you sure have a deep voice for a 10 year old! You sound just like Batman on TV!"

He made a really big deal about the whole thing. He called my mom over and asked me to repeat The Batman voice for her, and I did. But mom wasn't surprised because she had heard me do it a thousand times. "Yeah, he talks like that all the time." mom said.

But dad continued to stare at me in amazement.

And the punchline of this whole story is that now as a 40 year old man, I partially make a living doing voice-overs for TV, radio, animated characters and video games.

SO funny how life works sometimes.

I have that problem now! Somehow a woman's voice just doesn't do justice to Batman, Robin, Apes, and Trek figures!

When I was a kid, the only action figures I had were Big Jack (from the Big Jim series), and 2 AJ's. I think Big Jack was a cross between Greg Norris from Mission Impossible and Easy Reader from Electric Company. AJ sounded like a teenage boy (b/c in my world he was Big Jack's son who went on adventures w/ his dad from time to time).

I'm pretty sure my Lincoln Dracula was a complete impersonation of Billy Van's Count from Frightenstein. I still do that if playing Dracula with the kids.

My neighbour did these completely nerdy little routines with Penguin and Joker that still give me chills when I think about them. He was the 70's answer to Martin Prince.

I tried to mimic the voices as best as I could. I recall doing a high-pitched hick voice for Bo Duke, and a more restrained southern accent for Luke. Fonzie had his Italian-American accent, and Batman of course sounded like Adam West.

I continued to do that with all the toy lines. I can still do a pretty good Peter Cullen/Optimus Prime.

I passed it on, my son does this now. He does a mean Kevin Conroy Batman for a 6 year old!

                Great thread!

When I played with my Megos I would try to mimic the voices that were on the Superfriends cartoon. I never saw the live action Batman until I was in my late teens. I only had 3 TV channels that would come in and none of them had the Batman TV show.

I didn't have any of the Trek or ape ones, only the WGSH Megos.
Thanks to Technology I can be the Hermit that I am today.

I just caught some "Frightenstein " clips on youtube, and your right Brian, he would be a great Mego Drac voice! Igor is funny as heck too!!
