    Lex Luthor Source Art Discovered

Chris Franklin has made another discovery in sourcing the origins of Mego packaging art, this time with the 1978 Superman the Movie Package.

It seems Lex is from the classic Treasury Edition Comic "Superman VS Spiderman" which of course our own Scott Adams paid tribute to with our Superhero Checklist Trading Card:

View more of these discoveries at our Comic Book Origins Section.

Congrats on discovering Lex's source art, Chris. Always a pleasure seeing these. How do you keep finding these?

Thomas, I just kind of stumble on to them. There are a few where I've been actively looking for them (like the 79 Robin card source) and had a good idea where to start. But with this one, I was looking for good shots of Lex in his 70s jumpsuit, and I saw this and it just hit me. I've read this story several times, but never noticed it before.

Sadly, I don't have the original comic! The scan is actually from the DC/Marvel: Crossover Classics TPB.

You must've developed a sixth sense for this since you've made so many discoveries. And I'm sure this won't be the last either

I can recognize the source of a 30-year old piece of artwork, but I can't remember to grab my cell phone in the morning.

Fantastic discovery Chris. These "finds" are always among my favorite aspects of packaging admiration. Keep 'em coming!
