The last two Mego figures in my house

So since January my wife and I have been "fixin' to move", it's been a hellish process filled with around the clock work, packing and contractors broken promises. Did I mention an idiot fell through my attic into my hallway?

    Anyway, it's been emotional.

So as we round the corner to getting a "stick in the sand" so to speak, I needed to take down the only two Mego figures on display anywhere in my house.

I hobbled these guys together from spare parts 11 years ago when I moved my son into "a big boy room" to make way for my daughter. I created this Superhero mecca for him, the batcopter with Batman and Robin fell and broke some time ago but I was so used to these guys that it hurt to cut them down today.

Even worse is painting over this. I've been adding heroes to it every year for a decade.

My kid, is incredibly zen about it. I wish I was.

I feel your pain Brian. I spent a week painting a Sesame Street mural in my twins before they were born and it was there up until they turned ten, then I had to paint over it and hang up some superhero posters.

It kind of broke my heart to see it go. Take lost of pictures before you paint it and the memories will stay forever.

Heh, I had a Sesame Street Mural too. It was replaced by a new one a few years ago.

Oh man, I can imagine how it must feel, especially having to paint over that really cool wall. Moving is tough, but moving out of a house that your kids grew up in is worse, I'm not looking forward to it. Chin up, sir!

Yeah, I think toy collectors tend to be sentimental. To be honest, I'm zen about leaving, we all are but it's not without it's stress. I posted all of this mostly out of catharsis.

I keep saying to my wife "I can't wait to be picking out couches, I'll have a creepy smile on my face and take hours"

Cut it out and take it with you! Wall just needs a patch job. Frame it and keep adding heroes every year.

I feel your pain too, Brian. Andrew's room was originally Super Jrs. themed. One wall was covered with vintage wallpaper. The others had very Toy Story-like clouds painted on them, and prints of original Super Jrs. drawings I did, cut to shape and mounted on foam core. When he got older, we switched out the wallpaper for regular DC Super Hero paper from the 70s, and I grabbed classic super hero poses from Curt Swan, Neal Adams, Gil Kane, Carmine Infantino and Jose Luise Garcia Lopez (praise be his name) and mounted those on foam board to replace the little kiddies.

A few years ago, I had to paint over those clouds, and it liked to kill me. I'm happy that he still wanted to keep thew wallpaper and the foam pieces on his now dark blue walls.

But I can't image leaving this house and having to take those down. I know eventually, it's going to happen, at least the taking down part. But I empathize.

I love your wall, though! Great job on the JLU stuff, in particular!!! Make sure you take TONS of pictures before painting over it.

                    Aww, that's really sweet.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

That wall is so charming, I'd be sad, too. It's akin to when we moved, and my mother hated to leave behind the makings on the door frame of me and my sisters as we grew taller.

What a wonderful and endearing story Brian. But as one who has cycled through that already, I am happy to inform you there is most likely a round two when you become a grandpa. And I can assure you, that process becomes much more intense as you perfect the art of influencing their every moment with all of those great shows and hobbies that brought magic to your life. It's a rewarding experience when you see them embrace it and realize those things that thrilled you will live on long after you have stepped from the great stage. Enjoy the evolution my friend. It's a great ride. I'm proud to say my grandson can properly sing the lyrics to Rocket Robinhood and the '67 Spider-man in only his fourth year of life. He can tell everyone the secret identity of Batman, Robin, Spider-man, Iron Man, Captain America, and EVEN Shazam. And possibly the best part? He can sing the jingle to Action Jackson which ends with a pseudo-deep voice, "by Mego". Magical times indeed. So fear not this is the last time you see such images as you apply that paint. There are plenty more to come. You will be an incredible grandpa.

that is a great mural - the kidzen is cool. He knows you have a high rez pic to use for his tablet background that he can carry everywhere.
I hope your move and couch search go smoothly. I can't stand moving. I spent ten years rebuilding a centurion and then left it to preserve the family. I don't think I have recovered yet.

That was an incredible wall, and you are an incredible dad for doing that. I'm glad you took photos. Maybe you can enhance and blow up the photos for a new wall someday. Good luck w/ your move, as I know how stressful that can be.
