Mego made millions of AJs they will outlast the next ice age.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
but will anyone beyond our generation care? I suspect after our generation there will be very few who will. maybe just the crossover collectors for superheroes or Trek or the Apes. otherwise it will only be things like toy museums

i think there will always be some interest beyond the group that initially played with Mego's as kids, but it'll be less than it is now. And as we age and head toward retirement and downsizing and just changing interests, I suspect the passion among us as a group will decline as well. Which is damn depressing, I realize. I know that the prices of vintage GI Joe's are down a lot from where they once were, and those that played with the original 60's military line are about a decade older than those who played with Mego's, give or take. Vintage GI Joe is still valuable though, as I think vintage Mego will be too, especially because of the connection to licenses that remain popular.
I think the remego stuff will not have much value down the road, though.
There is always the chance that a new line of figures like the Mezco 1/12 Collection will inspire interest in the Mego figures which inspired them. Even Hot Toys figures basically follow the same format as GI Joe and 12" Megos from back in the day, but with the detail levels (and prices) taken to the extreme.
