Enter a Galaxy of Adventure with Mego Micronauts

I'm loving this addition to the department store catalog archive today because it's a nice shot of the Mego Micronauts. It's a wonderfully dynamic shot of the rocket tubes playset.

Also neat is what appears to be an early Hornetroid prototype, which has a missile launcher in the front. For more on the developement of the Hornetroid check out this article by Ray Miller.

Early Birds aren't just for Seniors dept.

Cast Away Toys is offering an Early Bird Special on their upcoming Captaion Action and Doctor Evil figures, you not only get to be the first kid on your block with them but they'll be all variant and stuff. Read more here....

It really is a shame that the Rocket Tubes did not work better. They could have been a truly awesome toy.

BTW, is it me? I can't find this particular ad in the dept store catalog archive.

It's me, I'm doing a run of these so I'm going to add them all on Wednesday when I reveal the next add. Sorry for the confusion.

The kids in the Rocket Tubes picture are pointing and saying "Look! Up there! That part doesn't work either!"

Very nice! The catalog photography is beautiful. Nice spot on the proto-Hornetroid!

                Hmmmm....

I find it weird that so many folks complain of non-working rocket tubes. The set I had when I was a kid wiorked really well.

AND it was one of the coolest toys ever! Too bad they didn't sell extra track sets.

The boxes didn't support the parts well and allowed the tubes to get bent so that they wouldn't seal properly upon assembly. So lots of people got very expensive sets that just wouldn't work well, or which distorted during non-playtime storage. Plus the blower didn't seem to be up to pressurizing larger layouts.

Usually people say the boxes were flimsy, but when you take all the parts out they were pretty darn strong. Just not strong enough (or with properly-designed inserts) to properly accommodate the contents!

My childhood set bought brand new for Xmas worked initially, but within days failed to work properly. Within days it didn't have enough oomph to push the car around the tube with a figure inside or handle any of the vertical configurations at all. As a result, it very quickly became too frustrating to use for the amount of enjoyment as compared to assembly time. For once, I think I decided it needed to be disposed of before my Mom decided for me
