Thanks, everyone! Friendly bunch, aren't you?

Bo8a_Fett -- re. "messing around with old musical instruments"...well, I collect old instruments (everything from cello to vibes to electric guitars) and I modify and make them as well. For example, I've put together a modular synthesizer out of about 20 pieces of tube-powered bench/test/laboratory gear (audio-frequency oscillators, oscilloscopes, random noise generators, etc.) that produces some truly frightening noises, not to mention a huge amount of heat from over 100 tubes! I should mention that I don't actually know how to play any instruments, but that doesn't stop me from playing *with* them.

    a brief intro

Hi all -- my name is Robert. I'm a product of the '60s and '70s, trying to buy back my boyhood, one toy at a time. I confess that I didn't have any Mego toys while growing up, but hopefully that won't be held against me; I do want to get a 2-XL and a Micronauts set-up, if those count. I don't have any specific collecting focus, but my interests are mostly in the construction, space, science and vehicular toys of the '60s and '70s. Oh, and traditional Japanese toys.

I live in San Francisco with my wife and a couple of cats. Other toys/interests of mine include restoring and riding old Italian motorscooters and motorcycles, messing around with old musical instruments and visiting Japan a couple of times a year.

That's enough from me. Glad to have found this forum, and I look forward to learning a lot from those of you more advanced enthusiasts.
