I have a Facebook account but only log in once a day as I play the Game of Thrones: Ascent game that is there. The Forums is where I spend the most time when I am not working on customs or dios.
I do both, but as cjeffreys noted, the ephemeral nature of Facebook is a bit harder for me to keep up with.
This very post is really an example for me. It's been here a few days and I am, as usual, a bit late to the party. But I can obviously still take part. On Facebook, this conversation would have already dropped down the Mego page, replaced by topics in which I'm less interested in taking part. I would have missed out on this conversations.
I sometimes feel like I simply can't keep up the conversations as they occur on FB. Sure, sometimes I happen into a post I'm interested in at the right time, but that's usually not the case. I scroll down only to find other posts I'm not as interested in, further convincing me that I already missed out on the topics I probably would've to take part in. I almost feel like I'm simply missing the conversation on FB.
Here at the Museum, I can look across the forums and posts I like and jump in. I have felt, however, that more and more the conversations are migrating over to FB.
Facebook to me is my go to when I am bored at work. And the more bored I am the more stupid and inane the things I post/repost are.
But Facebook isn't all that bad. It has put me back in touch with a lot of folks I haven't seen in awhile. It keeps me informed of neat projects friends of mine have coming up. And it lets me keep tabs on my not always smart daughters. Because I have a lot of interests seeing more is a better time waster for me.
The other thing Facebook does well, which has been kinda touched on is put a face to a name. Humanize the person you are chatting with. Get to know them somewhat on a personal level. I've seen the first day of school photos from several members' children. Vacation shots. Posts of new grandkids and their very proud new Grandfathers.
I have to admit that my lurking on the forums has indeed dropped off since the Mego Mania Facebook page has gone up. I suspect a lot of you "oldtimers" that have been with the forum since the beginning prefer the forums. I prefer the Facebook group.
Fortunately we have both which just makes sharing our hobby that much more easier.
I prefer the museum. All the heated debates of several years ago cured me of any kabam! that struck when social media hit. I prefer to stay private these days. But I do check out facebook once in awhile just to see what my old high school friends are up to after all these years.

Reason: emphasis on word debate
