    Batman’s Wayne Foundation

We were lucky enough to unearth this Mego ad to the toy trade announcing their latest (at least for 1977) addition to the World’s Greatest Superhero line The Wayne Foundation play set.

Interesting to note that Wonder Woman isn’t in this piece, she had been cut from the World’s Greatest Superheroes assortment (along with Tarzan) that year. Mego likely did this to shift focus of the character on the 12″ Wonder Woman line they aggressively launched that same year.

For more on the Wayne Foundation please visit the Mego Museum Galleries.

this is the first time I had seen this ad. I still remember waking up on Christmas and seeing this in the living room with new megos and the Batmobile. My brother and I declared that Christmas the best one.

As it should be. But secretly, don't you wish Mego had reissued this with Marvel art as the Baxter Building?

Aquaman looks like he's taking on Mxy & Riddler--that takes guts.

One of the problems with this, after leaving this standing up for more than a month it will begin to look like the Leaning tower of Pisa. It would become so top heavy that the cheap floor boards would begin to break. We had to take it apart and just us the backdrops in a bookcase to play with this. I still have my original backdrops and was lucky enough to buy another WF on ebay while they went cheap.

Yeah a Baxter building would have been great. Ben could have a weigh room, Reed a lab, a portal to the negative zone, and the pogo plane and Johnny's hot rod painted in the background, a monitor of the FF rogue's gallery. I could go on and on, being that I read almost every silver and bronze age issue up to 120 or so.

The Wayne Foundation isn't on my want list due to price point and the cardboard material that probably is hard to maintain in the same condition shape on display. But I do love seeing pictures like this.
