Just found a great pic of 2 MOC Action Jose figures! A recent post on 3DJoes has pictures of Hasbro Toy Morgue here at Mat's site:
The Mystery set could be Marine camo set or striped redshirt casual set sold on figure.Comment

Great stuff!
I love all the variations. I often hunt for just one, to put some variation on the collection..

Here's an add for BARTER, they were responsible for tons of Mego Like product. I suspect that Action Jose shares outfits with some of these creations:

The Ceppi Ratti World of Adventure figures are also shown in the pics. Does Hasbro have the KOs as a way of checking the market and keeping track of what else was being produced? During my very brief time working at a Toy Company they would get advance product not yet in stores from other toy companies and have a Copy/Knock Off planned in the event a competitors product took off. This way the company was positioned to catch a trend early.
Hasbro's product was also much more expensive than KO stuff, a KO uniform set was $1.00-$1.25 while Hasbro stuff was $3.50 and up. Hasbro tried to solve this by creating the Defenders toy line. Basically knock off them selves. We could be seeing market research items?Last edited by Neutron X; Aug 14, '15, 10:34 AM.Comment

That's entirely possible, a lot of companies and toy inventors keep samples of what the competition is doing.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Very interesting. What year would you say the Action Jose stuff is from? Maybe 1973-1974? I think the Defenders came out in '75, so it it possible that Jose (and other similar items) were early, less-obvious attempts by Hasbro to get a piece of the knock off action for themselves? The Joe knock-offs had been flowing fast and thick since the line's initial popularity in the '60s, so maybe they were already thinking "if we can't beat them, join them!" by the early '70s?Comment

Jose could also be a experimental toy line by Hasbro like Palitoy mentioned. We need more information. I swear the right hand on Jose in Marine camo looks a little like a vintage Joe hard hand. I could just be seeing things with such a small blurry picture things like this can trick the eye.Comment

I love this thread!! I've been collecting Dyna Man aka Adventure Man and other GI Joe knockoffs/clones/wannabes for about three years and have been adding a few Mego-likes to the mix. Sorry, I don't have a camera yet, (when it comes to a choice between buying a camera or toys, toys win!) but here is what I have from the Ceppi ratti stuff. These pics were originally used by the sellers.
Doesn't that ski outfit look familiar?
Jimmy Brown, Black Jack and Tommy Bright and outfits
The seller of the red/blue outfits said they were part of the series but they're made a bit differently. They are staying with the set.Last edited by KOMonger; Aug 15, '15, 7:57 PM.Comment

The Dynaman figures are great to collect too! My only disappointment was the the Mexican Cowboy set the bullets are plastic that is hardening and break easily. I liked the State Trooper alot. Mr Action, Dynaman, Adventurer, Tommy Gunn, My Buddy, Fighting Ace, and Redbox are all pretty cool to collect. There are some really cool pieces out there.Comment
