The Caped Crusader returns in FTC’s Batman Wave 4!

The fight against good and evil just expanded! Gotham’s greatest hero is back, as Figures Toy Company would like to officially announce their 4th series of DC Comics Batman retro action figures! This series will feature three new additions to the World’s Greatest Heroes lineup, as well as an all new version of the Caped Crusader!
That’s right, Batman is back for the fourth series, and will have a BRAND NEW head sculpt for his latest figure! He’ll be joined in this series by one of his greatest allies and two of his greatest foes; Commissioner Gordon gets his official release as part of Series 4, and rounding out the set are the first ever retro figures of Scarecrow and Ra’s Al Ghul! While some collectors may already have a Commissioner Gordon in their collection thanks to Figures Toy Company’s now retired early bird release, the Batman Retro Series 4 version will have a green trench coat instead of the brown trench coat that the early bird edition came with.
Batman Retro Series 4 action figures will be coming soon, so keep your eye on Figures Toy Company’s official web site and social media for further release information on this line, product availability, and news on all of their amazing action figures! Be sure to follow them on social media, and stay updated on the latest information online by using the hashtag #MMFTCNEWS!

I hope this new Batman will have a new comic-accurate bat symbol on his chest too. I never really liked the flattened oval Mego used.

Prototypes of Ras and Scarecrow's head are on the link below. It will be fun to see what kind of treatment they give the new Batman head. Hoping for a Neal Adams style.

We've got Jose Luis Garcia Lopez (Praise Be His Name) Batman and Gordon up top, along with a Jerry Bingham Ra's and Arthur Adams Scarecrow from the original Who's Who. At the bottom is a more recent (but retro) Jerry Ordway Batman.

          Pretty good artistic company.

I wonder if they will change up the oven mitt gloves on this Batman as well?

After looking at the prototypes for Scarecrow and R'as, it seems pretty obvious that FTC is starting to use sculpts that veer away from the simplicity of the classic MEGO heads, which is a good thing because perhaps we WILL get a Caped Crusader more along the lines of Neal Adams or JLGL. Gives me hope that perhaps they'll use head sculpts closer to Perez's renderings of Raven and Starfire rather than just using existing (and somewhat character inaccurate) heads.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

This is a difficult line for FTC to walk. On the one hand we certainly need improvements to the original Mego Batman, but on the other hand, if you go too far it won't look right. I think FTC should stick with the 70's vibe of Mego and use only 70's Batman artists (Neal Adams and Marshall Rogers would be my choices) as guides. I don't want to see a Batman without his trunks, for example, nor do I want to see a Batman in all black and gray--both looks are too modern for my Mego shelf. But a Batman with long horns, spiked gloves, a correct emblem, a long and durable cape, white eyes, and an expression of quiet determination would be just right.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Part of my attraction to Mego is their distinct style/cheap production. Today's tools allow for so much more, but the more comic-like it becomes, the less Mego-like. It really is a challenging balance.

A great wave IMO. I love the art FTC is using to promote the Scarecrow--I just wish the prototype followed it more closely.

Cool! I hope Batman looks like the Kenner Super Powers figure.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
