    Repro or Postpro?

As I look at and admire all the accomplishments that Mego had made through the years, and seeing what FTC and Doc Mego has done in recent years and let us not forget any of the other 8" format manufacturers, maybe these companies should be seen as post-production rather than reproduction.Picking up where mego left off and continuing to release the originals as well as introducing new lines and characters. If mego were still alive today, they would probably still be releasing Batman or Superman today.Of course that is an example but you get the picture. Now if you are selling a mego batman then it should have "all original mego" parts or else it's a "Heinz 57 batman",call it what it is.Honesty is the best policy when dealing with vintage collectables.I will write more when time permits.I have to go help my probation officer(wife)!!!!
Take two mego's and call me in the morning.

^^^ - I agree. Re-Mego just sounds closest to the point.

In the End It all comes down to Integrity... In some cases you can not tell Reproduction from Real at all and in some cases you can not tell unless it is in hand and you CLOSELY examin it , so many Reproduction pieces can pass for the real thing these days...

            Re-Mego has my vote too!
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

The modern Mego movement is much more than simply Reproduction. It's about Resurrection, Revival, Renovation, Revisiting, Revision, Reinvention, Rejuvination, and Reinvigorating.

              Hence Re-Mego is a good catch-all.

Re-Mego is a great way to put it.However, would a FTC series 1 Batman hold any substantial value if it were completely FTC like a complete and authentic mego Batman? I guess time will tell.Anyhow, I am enjoying the "re-mego" stuff as much as I enjoy the original and it's nice to see a forum such as this to discuss one of my greatest passions...... MEGOS!!!!!

Repro has been endlessly debated for the past decade within the Mego community. Companies making repro gear have listened to the vintage collectors and generally marked their stuff as Repro. We're also generally pretty good at self-policing and keeping each other informed around here.

We've seen some drop in demand for things like the Cowboys, Knights and Robin Hood with the repro figures, but I think that has to do with the fact that those genre's in general have been aging out with collectors. I don't see a great demand for Wild West memorabilia these days as that generation is quite literally dying off.

I'd say we did see a dip in the Star Trek stuff initially, but it appears that there are many more Star Trek Collectors in general than the few thousand repros that were released, and the truly rare ones such as certain Aliens still holds their value. We're even starting to see the EMCE stuff go up in value.. particularly the non repro guys like Chekov, Kahn, Gorn and Sulu. The Romulan repro is certainly in demand. As is Pike and the Salt Vampire.

I'd say the Superheroes are going to follow a similar pattern as the Treks.

in the long run I'd say repros are healthy for the hobby because they bring folks back into the fold as well as introduce the format to a new generation in an affordable price point.

I'm personally not hugely into repro, but I'm all over any revised or new figures they make... whether that's the Matty Retro Action line, Alfred and Bizarro from FTC, or the Marvel stuff coming from EMCE/Diamond.
