Mego Mini Meet Florida 2015 CANCELLED
It's official folks...
Mego Mini Meet Florida 2015 has been cancelled
1. ) Call it what you want, not going to mention names, but cheap, frugal, comes to mind. Spending $20.00 for a nice baby back rib meal, with 2 sides
and a soft drink, which includes tip....is more than reasonable. And with a spacious private room to boot. I apologize if I offended anyone in the process, but the fact remains that events, networking does come with price tag. A no, not brown bagging it at a local park, or McDonalds parking lot.
2. ) Yes, Wee67 ( Bill ) is a very nice person. He was the first to pay the $20.00 ( which I refunded ) and he even called me on the phone to discuss.
3. ) While yes, MEGO friendships are important and a simple lunch with someone, even if it's just one person can go along way. I agree. But this event was more. Labeled, MINI MEET. If you can't get 6 people to attend and event from a radius of 150 miles either way than why bother.
4. ) The manager was quite clear to me at Tony Roma's Restaurant that he had to have a minimum of 6 people up to 20 to make it worth it. And I agree. Life is a business and restaurants that open up their private room on a Saturday for 3 - 4 hours for only $100 is a pretty good deal. This mini mego meet up was not attended for people to show up with holes in their pockets, order water, and not tip.
5. ) This initial MMMF was for,
A) For people to bring their own MEGO's for either show, trade or sell. And the manager was fine with that.
B ) To make MEGO friendships.
C) To build a small committee and designate certain folks to follow through on vendors, meeting places, and ideas on future MMMF events.
6. ) The main reason I had people paying upfront and RSVP was because, money talks. If you have no skin in the game, then you can just not show up and cancel without notice. At least if you cancel the last minute and still pay, I have enough money for the rent / food for the private room.
7. ) I'm now totally convinced that MEGO collecting / meet ups is a mid west / north thing. Don't get me wrong, MEGO collecting is worldwide. But as far as people committing and attending meet up or MEGO events, the SOUTH is out.
8. ) While I appreciate everyones feedback and comical posts... I luv a good joke. Bottom line nobody stepped up except for Wee67
9. ) Orlando was the perfect location and Tony Roma's was the perfect meeting place. ( Fact )
10. ) Did I say the SOUTH is NOT the place to have a MEGO event ?
In closing, hey I tried. I pitched the perfect pitch. But in the end I had I struck out all the batters. Say what you want about me. The fact remains that there was no interest. And that was fine. Not mad, just sad some. I was just the organizer that invited people to the dance. And nobody got on the dance floor.

There will be no future attempts by me anyway to start up a in Florida in the future. That will be up to someone else. I'll just throw in my $20 and see where that gets me.
