    Up Close: DST Spider-Man

The highly anticipated launch of the first of Diamond Select Toys/ EMCE Marvel comics ReMegos has certainly been a topic of great interest among Mego collectors. The unique structure and higher price point (both enforced in the terms of it's license) have given many collector pause before they purchase.

What we hope to do is showcase the item as objectively and honestly as possible and let you make the final decision.

    Some tips and advice:

DO NOT attempt to remove the window box without the assistance of a hair dryer to heat up the glue, if you simply tear it, you will damage the litho.
Get extra bodies, either from Dr.Mego or another supplier.
Peter Parker's vest is extremely tight, great care should be taken in dressing him. Once dressed, DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE HIS CLOTHING. We ended up tearing the sweater vest in trying to remove it.
Peter's glasses simply refuse to stay stuck to his head, an application of glue dots makes them stay. Personally, I don't like the glasses but to each their own.

I thought this was funny, those %$^#%$ glasses popped off just as I snapped the photo.

Yeah, these are great. I'm tempted by this set now. I really like the new Spidey head and outfit. It has a great Ditko feel. The Parker head appears to be a bit of a combo of Ditko and Romita styles.

The whole glued-in box thing is flummoxing though. This is a collectors set! Someone fell asleep a the wheel...and I'm sure it was none of the fine folks here who contributed.

I really wish I had a type S body, I have a theory that Parker can be put together safer and less tears with a bandless body.

Thanks so much for the pics.

I like: The Nu-Spidey with the belt and webshooters. The Nicholas Hammond vibe is spectacular!!!

I'm lukewarm on: The Peter Parker. Seems like a missed opportunity to nail a Romita look. The fragility of the clothes don't excite me.

I dislike: The fabric of the Spidey suits. They're that synthetic shiny modern fabric. I love the old Mego tights. They had that certain something. The Re-Mego figure that best captured that (that I own) is the SuperCollector. Both FTC and this set fall short in the texture of the fabric.

I think I will wait for a sale.

I like the red body. Hope Doc can sell them separately.

I had some doubts until I got my set in the mail. It looks simply Amazing in person. Sure there is a few issues that need to be dealt with before Cap comes out but think about it Gang this is there FIRST figure In this line. sure there are going to be a few hick-ups tell me a line that didn't need to make some improvements when kicking off. My advice to all is pick one of these up now before the prices go way up and avoid being the guy/gal that has to say " I'm kicking myself" the value is there. Like the little girl on the car commercial says " They don't cost alot of money so buy one" :-)

That's a great looking figure, love the black outlined head, the whole figure looks great,
hopefully they will include some Spidey villians.

Doc posted pics of Peter with the web shooters on Facebook. I think they make him look better that way.

I've already stated it a couple of times that, for me, the "new" Spider-Man has a very nostalgic 70s feel. I love it!

For me, the glasses SUCK. Everything else works really well IMO. I love the Captain Action vibe from the new Spidey take.

Any quibble I have is really minor and not worth mentioning other than the packaging, but that can be easily corrected if DST wants to. I know the price point can be a barrier, but I really like extra heads and costumes and accesories. I just hope a wide range of figures can be made.

Ya know, I 'be really been confused by that. The proto Parker looked like he had different glasses than the old, ugly Kemt glasses.

I think about the glasses that came with Doc Venture, and those are fantastic. It seems like a really easy model to find from some line and make it to scale.
