Mego Meet 2015 Announced

I really like the Skokie thing and think it will push our group forward. Now, if the Meet becomes a travelling show then I could hook up a Cincy Meet in 2016 or whenever. If it stays in Illinois for a while, then just as cool. Wheeling was like being landlocked. It's a quaint little neighborhood, but you feel isolated from civilization. -
I can really see this from both sides.
Connecting with the Milk Man is something I've been expecting, especially after the Eisner nods. He's just a great dude at the 'Meet so the more he's involved the better. And The Meet could get some actual comic site publicity from this. I'm sure CBR would give it a mention.
OTOH, Mego is to the East Coast what Mattel is to Cali. I really, honestly do feel bad for my Tri-State brothers, which is why I was hoping the new locale was Pittsburgh, Columbus or Cincy. Cincy would have been awesome considering WGSH existence is intertwined with SuperFriends and the real Hall Of Justice is a giant museum in 'Natti. Add-In the history of Kenner and I thought there was something to explore.
I get how the benefits and problems of Wheeling to Skokie now reverse for a number of people and I think that's great for them. But I think what happened in Wheeling is going to stay in Wheeling and Skokie will be 2.0.Leave a comment:

It is really just to much for me to swing. My tables provide my spending and food cash, so without that to off set my cost I am dead in the water. Like VintageMike, I would have to turn a drive that long into a 2 day event. Just cant afford that much time off from work. I the construction bizz you don't get paid vacation days! It is all good, this venue upgrade is much need and long over due.Leave a comment:

I'm trying to bear in mind that where-ever the Meet is held, it's potentially a long trip for some interested member.
But this year may be prohibitively expensive for me; mulling my options. I will say the venue sounds fun!Leave a comment:

^^^I visit this forum EVERY DAY for many years now and think of it as a small family... You get to create mental images on most of the members but the thrill to actually meet them in person is consuming me. Meeting the talented customizers herein, the Museum administrators, Dr. Mego and many members I've dealt through the Marketplace would be a dream come true. And now is very feasible... Speaking to the wife now!^^^Leave a comment:

As much as I love your display, it's more about having YOU at Mego Meet. Gas is under $3, surely that Mopar can make it to Skokie? We don't want to leave any of our Mego Meet vets behind, but we really needed to move the needle. While this is great news for some, I am afraid Type3Toys will have to bow out of megomeet's new location. Just to far to drive and I wont lug all my stuff on a plane. I am happy for those to far away from WV will now have the chance to enjoy what has been a part of my life for a decade! This new location has been needed for a long time now.Leave a comment:

This is a perfect example of why it was time for a new location! Round up your posse Mike and Meet us in Skokie:-)Leave a comment:

One more thing. I think the most important thing someone cam bring to the Meet is themselves. So if you had a table in the past and hauling stuff to the new location is a hassle I would also suggest thinking about just going anyway for whatever length of time is viable and not worry about selling/getting a table, because it seems like that's covered anyway. I'm not pushing anyone although I would personally love to see as many friends as possible. Every year, it's pretty much agreed one of the highlights if not the highlight is the nightly get together at the Mego Suite, which again you are bringing yourself and possibly whomever you're traveling with. Again, my opinion only, though I suspect others would share it here. Hate to see anyone miss this if they don't have to.Leave a comment:

We've worked a deal on room rates, they match the Hampton Inn from this year.
I really hope everyone tries to make it, as we don't want to leave anyone behind.
The intention for this is to grow the event, Chicago provides better options for travellers, it offers more for families, we can expand our dealer selection and not to mention, the new faces we'll likely encounter.
It's certainly not done out of convenience for any of us, it doubles my travel, it may triple Steve's journey. If you fly in like Scott, it could be a little cheaper and easier but it won't cut the flight time down.
I've had a lot of interest by former Mego employees of trying to do a reunion of sorts, Skokie will go a long way to make something that happen.
This is a big scary leap for us and we are certainly putting our money where our mouth is. We all loved Wheeling and we hope we don't lose what we made there but change and challenges are good.
Plus, we get to work closer with the Aw Yeah crew, I fail to see a downside in that.Leave a comment:

I see Mr. Ligotti has been researching the options all day yesterday like myself lol... And guys IT'S DEFINITLY NOT A MEET WITHOUT THE BOTH OF YOU!!!First Off...This makes a lot of sense and I think it's a perfect marriage...as Scott mentioned, we had reached Wheeling's capacity for expansion...this is a welcome change.
...but, like VintageMike and BronkBoyKev, this adds a considerable amount of additional hours to an already long commute, double the distance and the time...and flying is not an option. I know there are a few folks who have traveled as long, if not longer, and I commend them but, I am not sure if Berto or I will be able to attend.
I will try my very best to make it happen, but as of right now, it does not look good.
For those that want to monitor Airline Ticket Prices, I would recommend:
Google Flight Search: https://www.google.com/flights
ITA Matrix Airfare Search: http://matrix.itasoftware.com
Kayak: https://www.kayak.com

Aitfare Watch Dog: http://www.airfarewatchdog.com
Those flying from the NY Area, I seen tickets as cheap as $137 Non-Stop Round Trip if you are patient...right now it's about $217.
Hope this Helps.
We made this trip about 7-8 years ago with 4 drivers... We left NY at midnight and hit the windy city around 2:00-2:30 in the afternoon... We would make this trip with 2 drivers, just my brother and myself, currently Amtrak from penn station to Chicago is a 19 hour trip for $105pp but that's with NO luggage, and every year we have a haul coming back with us so that would be the least of my 3 options, as of now Spirit $217 is the best flight deal out of Laguardia to Ohare but once again baggage is extra and throw in a car rental as an added expense so although the quickest method of transport its still option number2 at this point... Seems like the best way is still the Drive for us... Right now I'm still wishing I had my conversion van instead of the Chrysler, but I'm dedicated to make at least this first trip to the new venue... I think the cheapest room at the hotel currently is $140 a night... Any ideas yet of what the room rates will be???Leave a comment:
