Up Close: Steve Austin Astronaut

Another new addition to the Mego Museum this week, from the last wave of Bif Bang Pow’s Six Million Dollar Man line comes Astronaut Steve Austion. Who is available as part of a two pack with Barney Hiller here. The world can always use another astronaut figure, so let’s suit up and check him out.

It's a very nice figure. The improved color scheme on the head gives a better register to the sculpt. I really like the suit and the material chosen to create the space suit. And with all measurements made, I'm glad the head size is the same as the first run, because it would have really disrupted the line in appearance if his head was dramatically different in scale. It's a well designed figure.

I'm disappointed. The first Austin sculpt was too big, and according to Jason, the Astronaut version was going to have a smaller head. If BBP had improved this sculpt, I'd have bought multiples to replace the giant noggins on the track suit and khaki versions. As it stands, Steve looks ridiculous when displayed with my Mego and ReMego figures due to the oversized head.

i think bbp did a great job on oscar and all the rudys but i still feel like steve doesn't resemble lee majors. he looks more like a george lazenby.

I'm glad I didn't pre-order this one.
The outfit looks like a hazmat suit, it looks really plastic-like, especially with the printed-on details. And the sculpt is still not Majors.
A pity, I really wanted an Astronaut Steve...
