My first try at restringing -- SUCCESS!

As my Mego collection has slowly grown, I have been "trading up" various clothing and accessories in the attempt to "restore" some figures. That has included grabbing some eBay lots of heads (for instance) along with random loose limbs, and jumping on a broken-leg figure just for those pristine boots... etcetera. Obviously, this has resulted in a growing pile of broken bodies that could be useable by merely replacing a leg or arm.

So... this past Saturday evening, I pulled out all the bodies and earmarked replacement parts whose repairs could be answered by restringing, along with a freshly-purchased 5 yards(!) of elastic, a pair of scissors and some hemostats. After one ridiculously simple repair, I decided to lay out the remaining figures awaiting restringing to grab a quick WIP photo --

Only 45 minutes later, this was the result of my efforts.

I cannot begin to express how incredibly delighted I am by taking so much potentially "useless garbage" and turning it all back into useable action figures!

VERY NICE. Did you use the round elastic, or the flat elastic?

Little tip...you can get rid of the 'spread eagle' look by going over the pelvic bar instead of straight across to the other leg. Nice work.

Round elastic. The entire 5 yards (minus what I had just used in the first attempt) is shown in that first photo. but I realize its shape may not be completely evident.

Yeah... I was wondering if that would have any effect, but I only noticed that bar on the second-to-last figure. The very last one did not have the bar.

I came up with this method of restringing that gets rid of the spread legs and it will work even if there isn't any pelvis bar. http://megomuseum.com/community/show...618#post852618

I will warn you,it becomes addictive after awhile. Any more,I'll buy Type 1s over Type 2s so I can re-string them.

Too late... I am already addicted. In fact, I am selling of all my crack and heroin just so I can buy up all the T1s I can find.

I thought I would add another update, even though tghese photos are a couple weeks old.

I was the high bidder on this worthless pile of eBay junk --

After another restringing session (which obviously included some Type 2 limb swaps), the result was these new additions to my "spare project bodies" pile --

It may not be evident, but only Uhura and Scarecrow needed no work. There were some split/cracked Type 2 hands, feet and forearms in that first photo; all fixed.

                    And now I must stop.

In the midst of another "Ebay Broken Mego Lot" repair session, my pointy scissors (which are so effective in ramming the Type 2 wrist pegs back into place) slipped, and imbedded themselves quite deep into my fingertip.

                    The immediate result: BLOOD EVERYWHERE!!

I was able to stop the bleeding long enough to shove some crazy glue into the wound (ow ow ow ow ow ow ow!), but my tactile finesse is gone for the time being. It's hard enough to type this with only the other nine fingers.

Here is the latest eBay "pile of junk" for which most would probably say I paid too much. My sincerest apologies to whomever I may have outbid, but my high bid sat on this auction for at least 24 hours, and no one seemed to see the same intrinsic value as I --

I was able to pair-up many of the random pieces with loose items in my "future project parts" pile (i.e., new heads with various earlier restrung bodies; partial bodies requiring multiple T1 restrings & T2 part swaps; new clothing on existing bodies) to come up with ALL of the following. Some of the newly-mated T2 bodies are awaiting knee pins (already en route). After all that, I ended up with an excess of items (including a few heads) for future projects. Here are the "complete" and "waiting knee repin" bodies at this point --

And I finally swallowed my fear and attempted completely reattaching a T2 body with the proper rubber bands. It was so easy, that I re-banded 5 more!
