    Dear Mego

Steven Ross generously shared with us this awesome letter from Mego VP Bill Baron (whom we interviewed in 2006).

Steven explains “When I was a teenager (with a lot of time on my hands, apparently), I sent the Mego Corp. a multi-page letter (on notebook paper!), that explained why Marvel’s Micronauts (comics) would make an excellent movie. “

Sure it’s a form letter but seeing as the movie rights are a hot commodity right now, it seems you started something Steven!

That's awesome. If Mego had gotten a Micronauts movie off the ground, maybe they would have survived the 80s.

As I remember, Mego was always responsive to kids writing letters. I remember I sent them a letter in the late 70's (maybe 1977 or 78, when I was like 9 or 10) telling them how excited I was about my Hall of Justice and that there was a picture of Green Lantern on the outside and asking them if they made that figure because I couldn't find it at Kresge's or Kiddie City. They send me a letter back, with a kind response that they didn't make GL.

Another time, I wrote them a letter asking where I could find replacement stickers for my 8 inch batmobile as they had torn off. They sent me a brand new Batmobile! How cool!

I was confused about this line-up when I was a kid. I remember the comics but the figures did not look like them so I did not get them.

"We will always try to make better and more interesting Superheros." April 1980.

            SIGH.

Such a great artifact, thanks for sharing with us, Steve.

I had a letter on that same stationary! I asked where I could buy Micronaut figures when I couldn't find them locally anymore. I was told they weren't making them anymore and was very sad. I held on to the letter for a while but it got thrown away when I went to college.

Yeah, that reminds me about 1980, I broke some parts on my warp racer and rhodium orbiter. My mom and I wrote them and they sent me replacement parts!! I was thrilled. At the time I guess I had no idea they were responsible for my other favorite toys, the Star Trek figures
