As for Toy Hunter, I enjoy it for the entertainment that it is. I don't expect it to be 100% real. Hell, I don't expect anything I see on television to be 100% real, including the news. I just get a kick seeing stuff I collect featured on a TV show, even five years ago I never would have imagined such a thing would happen

Sorry don't mean to piggy back on this thread, but I can't get a new one started and I have a question that's killing me about the last episode.

Correct me if I'm wrong but on last episode of Toy Hunter Jordan had his vintage Star Wars figures graded from AFA. They were showing the process and during that show someone from AFA was looking at a carded Power of the Force Bossk. As far as I know they didn't make that figure on that card. I know the card-back was created and there are a few "sample" cards floating around. Saw one on ebay a few years ago for about 3K if memory serves me correctly. But why would they even be looking at that figure for grading? It's a fake right? Unless by some miracle they had the one production sample carded figure made (maybe, just guessing here that one even exists) and they just so happen to get it filmed that time?

You can't blame TH. If you're looking for a villain, start with Antique Roadshow. All these shows derive from them.
I've always blamed Oprah. She was the one who would do shows about having people finding stuff they had and it turned out to be worth money.

In the good ol' days, I remember we had to make friends with strangers in the USA using the text based internet, and trade our nth generation VHS copies of anime and Starlost or whatnot, for tapes of MST3K.

It always pains me when people are negative about the show and Jordan, but it's par for the course. With any pastime or hobby that people are passionate about opinions and viewpoints are going to fly.

I honestly don't think the show hurts the monetary collecting aspect any more than ebay has for years. The past year or two going out all I've heard from people selling is still 'ebay ebay ebay ebay ebay', not 'do you have a backup buyer are are taking it to a toy show like on Toy Hunter?'.

I really think it's mostly a good thing. It just makes adult collectors more normal and accepted by the non-collecting community with the more exposure we get. There used to be a time when I was buying something it was automatically assumed I was buying for children (since I'm a female, that must be it ) or eye squinting suspicion that I was taking it to ebay.

The past few years, I've openly jokingly responded, "No way in hell, that's for meeeEEEEeee", seller laughs, tensions eased, and jovial atmosphere all around! No eye rolls, no furrowed confused brow, no 'what the eff you're an adult?!'. It's much more normal now.
So I have no problem with the exposure he brings to the collecting world and peeps, as well as lighting the fire and passion under new future collectors.
I think more non-collectors should watch the show. I've already trained once confused but now accepting family member slaves to keep their eyes out for my type stuff, now onto THE REST OF THE WORLD!!!

It was a lot sexier when he had that hot assistant in season one. The new guy...not so much.

                      I can disagree with that.
I was tuning in to see the damn toys, not an assistant in short shorts.
But I think we all can agree that I'm in the minority here.

One thing the show did do for collecting - is made it "cool"

I mean us Mego Brothers and Toy Brothers always thought it was cool - but main stream thought we were a little... crazy haha

I never posted any of my collection on social media like face book or twitter etc.. until I did the show.
My family & close friends knew I collected - but I would say 99% of people I just knew from work or school did not.

Had I posted pics prior to the show I think most would have thought I was crazy with just a bunch of toys.
Since it was on the show - now everyone thinks it is cool and toys are awesome.

again IMO I think the show is great for the hobby and all of us. I think the next 2-3 years will be some of the best we ever had with new stuff and remakes.
It will never replace when we were kids in the 70's and 80's but I think all the exposure will really get us some new and great stuff

Yeah, I miss the ol' tape trading days!

Seriously, if I just stuck to watching only stuff that was "officially" available in Canada, be it on video, television, whatever, there are soooo many films and TV shows that I never would have been introduced to, including many of my favorites (and yep, MST3K is in this catagory). In the old days I had tape trading and the local underground video store to help me watch what I want, now we have the glorious internet to help us.

Dude, I used to get four hours of UFO and Logan's Run for every one hour of Star Lost when trading with the guy at Star Tech.

I've never been cool before. Don't know if I like that. Makes me feel kinda icky.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Two scenarios- either legit mockup figure (http://theswca.com/index.php?action=...&item_id=48850), or it was a fake someone sent in and tried to pass. Good catch though I saw that too
