prices of things - best guide?

Who makes the most "realistic" price guide - online. In other words for someone just starting out - what would I buy or sell without embarrassing myself? I've looked at the FAQ here and it only seems to mention printed books. I guess they are printed so that they will be bought
    It's all good!

Look at completed auctions on eBay to get an idea

The ebay prices always look a bit inflated though

I have to agree. There is no more recent listing of the prices people will actually pay for an item than this. I use it all the time when trying to determine a price for something.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I agree with Thomas (Meule) because it is an actual guide to what the going rate is for something. Maybe 1 or 2 auctions go unusually high or low but look at more than a couple of listings and you'll get a good picture. As far as normal guides they are much more unreliable and unrealistic than anything out there.

I agree with the majority here.Use that ebay option first and then the toy review magazine,it might not have all the mego items you're looking for.But it's pretty good and more accurate then the books you'll find at any book store

Books are outdated anyway. In fact, a book is already outdated the second it comes out

                Not only are books inaccurate,
they don't cover the range of conditions for the toys.

Despite it's flaws, ebay's completed auction search let's you find a figure in comparable condition / completeness to help you gauge a realistic price.

In addition to eBay completed auctions, I'd say a thread in Mego Fact usually gives the best bit of advice on a price. Some of us have bought the same figures over and over again throughout the course of many years. Some have gone up over the years, some have gone down.

We'll always try to do what we can to help.

If you average completed item searches, maybe removing a fluke auction that went a-typically high, you can't possibly get an inflated price on a collectible's value. By it's very nature a collectible's value is what people are currently willing to pay for it. Ebay auctions end at what current collectors are paying for a given item. It really is the ONLY way to establish a current value.
