I was born in '74 so missed the height of the Mego craze. I don't recall what year it was but I want to say probably '79 was when I got my first Mego figures. I have no clue what my first one was but I'm guessing the first of several 8" Hulks. He came from a store just down the road. It was one of those mom and pop stores that carried everything. Over the years I got 8" Spider-Man, Batman, Joker and I don't recall any others. Also had a 12" Superman. My 12" Hulk came just before we moved in 1982. He came from some sort of clearance center I sorta recall. I also had Pocket Heroes Hulk, Spider-Man, Superman and Batman. The last Megos I remember getting were the 3 3/4" Bo and Luke Duke and the General Lee.Toys and comics. My house isn't big enough. It's an addiction.Comment

For me it was around 1975 when my brother and I got a few Mego Planet of the Apes figures. My bro got Alan and I got Pete and "for sharing" we got Ursus & Urko. My mom bought them for us at a stall inside the local market, an odd place to find toys for sure.... Interestingly enough I found out many years later that the human figures actually had shoes, either we lost them too fast or they came incomplete to start with....Comment

We never got any of the POTA figures here, but a friend brought a whole bunch of them back from Spain.
Later he got hooked on drugs and sold them to me for his next fix.
Priceless memories....

I'm pretty new to collecting figures, I only really started 11 months ago. So anyways I came across a youtube review of the retro action Darkseid figure and the guy was mentioning how it was a sort of a 'what if' mego made a figure of him. A few months later looking up Megos on Ebay I was able to get a minty loose complete Green Goblin ( My favorite Marvel character) at a really good price. I've been in love since.Known to occasionally brush shoulders with 8 inch goblins

In late 1975, I went wild for Star Trek. I wanted anything Star Trek and I could have sworn that I saw a commercial for what could have been Star Trek figures before I knew Trek.
But it would not be until the 1975 Sears Christmas catalog came in that I knew for sure that there were Star Trek figures.
And then, when we visited a department store there was an illicit Dr. McCoy figure in the toy section. Begging and begging to get it produced no results.
But Christmas 1975, I got that Dr. McCoy under the Christmas tree along with the plain catalog boxed Enterprise set Since no package was shaped like the carded McCoy I figured it was the only figure I got though. But I was proven wrong when I got the plain catalog boxed Kirk and Spock. I devoted little brian energy into figuring out why Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise came in plain brown boxes and McCoy had the card I just started to enjoy. I think by the end of Christmas Day at least one of the guys lost their insignia foil (LOL).Comment

For me it was solid boxed Batman Superman and Robin. My father and Uncle Ed (who lived with us) both ended up working stock at Shoppers Fair in Melvindale Mich. at just the right time, The day the first box arrived my dad brought home Batman and Robin and my Uncle was right behind him with Superman! I still get a smile thinking of that evening. My Uncle said he didn't think I'd want Aquaman and I was fine with that. As new figures came out they would buy the ones they thought I'd want. My dad soon got a better job but my Uncle stayed there till he was 72. Needless to say most of my childhood megos came from that store, and I was almost always the first kid on the block to have the newest megos.Comment

It seemed like I always had them when I was a kid. I would have to say 1975,since that's when the Type 2 came out and I never had any Type 1s. Not sure which one I got first but I do remember when I got Batman. My dad worked late and I was already asleep when he brought him home. I was kind of miffed he woke me up until I saw Batman.Comment

1973 solid box Superman, it was behind the counter forgot the name of the store. The owner had them displayed open so the kids could see them. I lost my mind when i saw them and my Mom asked me which one do I want....then the owner said "Ok kid which one? I picked Superman over Captain America, Robin and Tarzan.....Comment

My first must have been after 75, because he was a type two. I wasnt very super hero savy, I didnt know really any super heroes...mostly Lone Ranger and superman. Lone Ranger was always on at 5:30 AM so I got up early to watch him before school, and before all the cool Saturday Morning Cartoons. Shazam had a Saturday morning show, so on my Birthday I received Captain Marvel. I always pretended he was superman. I was constantly throwing him up into the tree and the garage rafters to make him fly. I think I broke three of them (usually a knee) before I learned there was a Superman Mego. Once I had Superman, Shazam became the bad guy. THen My Neighbor got a Batman and a Robin....WHHHAAATTTT?!!!!! How many of these guys were there? Then the rich kid down the strret became friends with us...he wasn't really rich, he just had every MEGO ever made. He had guys like Spiderman...whoever that was, and Ironman (shrug) and all the Star Trek bad guys. I barely remember seeing Mego hanging on the shelves and pegs. I do remember seeing Batman and Robin at Rexalls. I guess I was never really taken to the store much by my parents. I know I had a few duplicates from Birthdays and they were kept in the spare room untill I had a need for them. THen that room caught fire when an Iron was left on.........from there a need was born to replace my lost toys. An addiction was born.Comment
