Rare Mego Rosco P. Coltrane sheriff car...prototype?

Did anyone see this go down on ebay? It sold this past Sunday night for $2,025!!!

It isn't the more common 1950's style car with the single round light on top, but closely resembled the actual car from the show.

It had opening doors, and the Mego and Warner Bros copyright info on the bottom, dated 1982.

    Was it a prototype?

No, that's pretty cool. Says it's the Canadian version.

My buddy is a Dukes collector extraordinaire, and he says he's never seen one like that in 30+ years of collecting. He even has an ACTUAL door off of Rosco's car signed by the whole cast.

Dukes is not my area of expertise but I do know that Grand kept the Dukes going until '85 in Canada so it's possible. I know certain cars are available only here, it makes me wish I'd picked them up on close out.

I thought I saw one of these in the box on Ebay once, the car was more modern and the auction said it was a prototype.

Wow, if the second highest bidder wouldn't have bid, it would have sold for $126.
Don't know alot about this set but isn't it odd that its not marked Mego?

They sold a few versions of these up here in Canada. One set came with Roscoe, another with Cletus. Zellers and Woolco had these things atacked to the rafters for a long time, along with Boss' Cadillac and Daisy's Jeep. The General Lee set always seemed to sell well though.
I always thought the CB mcHaul car was just used in the interim, until this model was made? ...so the US never got the Dodge Monaco version at all, just the 55' chevy one?...weird!

I wonder if the high bidder is bummed... I hate when I know I won't be able to bid so I put in an overly high price, thinking "no one will ever bid this high for this item, I'll win it" and them somebody with auction fever bids like a madman up to the last penny I bid and I end up having to pay a gigantic amount for something worth no where near what I am paying... It's happened to me a few times over the years... now if I know I can't bid I wait. It's ebay - another one will show up eventually.

The high bidder is actually the one who bid up the price. The second highest bidder had his bid in on February 28, the winner started raising the price on March 2. At one time both bidders were up to $2,000, but at that time the auction was still for the second highest bidder. Good thing the winner placed another bid that won him the auction or the other guy would've had to pay $2,000 because of someone else. Now that would've sucked

at first I thought it must be for a rare 8" figure car that I never heard of but for the small figures that's a big price.

Meule and Misterdroid, If you use a sniper service there is less of a chance of someone bringing your bids up, unless they already have a really high bid in or they snipe a really high bid in at the end too but still the sniper helps. In the end only you really make yourself pay too much by bidding too much. I've done it to myself too.

I don't use a sniper service, I wait till the very end to bid and I only bid what I really want to pay for it. If that's not enough to win: too bad and the search continues

                              That is mad,
I'd rather pay that for a circle suit Spidey
