Mego Schiffer Book - Any Good?

I'm still a bit of a bookshelf guy at heart, despite the internet being the ultimate reference tool.

But looking at Amazon, I was wondering if the Mego Schiffer book by John Bonavita is a worthwhile book?

Anyone have any interior images, or thoughts on this book?

As a historical artifact from an earlier time of Mego Collecting, I think it's invaluable. I believe some members here can speak better since they actually knew Bonavita, but I remember it blew my mind when I found it at The World's Biggest bookstore in Toronto back in the day.

There were tons of things folks had never commonly head of prior.

The Museum still keeps an archive of his website in tribute to the man.

The third edition is the best, it's an essential to any Mego collector bookshelf.

I still have my second edition that I picked up at Silver Snail in Toronto back in 2000. I loved it then and still find myself flipping through it nowadays too. Very worthwhile book to pick up.

I still don't own this book nor have I ever seen one. I always thought it was just a price guide, and with the age of it and the emergence of ebay, those prices would be so wrong today. I guess there's a lot more to it than that, so I'll track one down.

It would be interesting to compare the differences in content to the three edition.

Whats the difference in editions? I have the first edition, so how would it compare to the third?

I have the blue first edition. My only (minor) gripe about the book is all the wasted white space, but I understand Mr. Bonavita didn't have much say in the layout and design.

I got the third version, it was the newest and had Doctor Who on the cover. Good Info and lists of items.

If you want the book because you like reading about Mego and all the different lines or as a reference for package and figure variations or you just like looking at pretty pictures of Mego toys, I don't think you would be happy with it, as it doesn't have any of that. At the time it came out it was an invaluable resource for collectors. I wore the first edition out, bringing it to toy shows and just plain admiring all the 8 inch figures I had never seen before. I also bought the second and third edition which were the same as the first with just very minor additions. I believe the third one had a picture of the first carded wonderwoman that ever surfaced, and that was about the only difference. I think once you've been exposed to all the info, pictures, and beautiful design here in the museum galleries and also in Ben's WGSH book, the schiffer book just doesn't hold up well.
