Wonder Woman AUSTRALIAN 8" Carded Doll

    Hi

I am wondering what the Australian carded version of the 8" doll is currently worth these days. I saw it listed in a 1996 book as being worth $3000.

    Hope someone can help...

    Kyall

    First, welcome to the boards!

Second, US$3,000 wouldn't even get you 'in the door' to talk about buying either of the two known, packaged examples (only one of which is factory sealed) of this Holy Grail… both of which are owned by the same cat, incidentally.

If you have any information or recollections of this card variation (or perhaps you are in possession of a previously unknown third example?!), we'd love to hear about it!

    Again, welcome aboard.

    Benjamin

      1977/79 Wonder Woman MOC

Here's a picture of the ©1977/79 carded Wonder Woman (the only known sealed example), commonly referred to as "The Australian" Wonder Woman.

      Amazing toy!

        Hi Kyall,

Welcome to the boards! I saw your letter in Collectormania today, looking forward to reading your article in the next issue, looks like you have a great bunch of WW goodies.

I'd guesstimate that a good condition (C-8+) MOC Wonder Woman in a properly described ebay auction would sell for $8-10K low, $15K Medium and $20K High. Dan (Dumbledore) will hopefully chime in, he's probably best placed around here to estimate a current value.

The loose figure with cardback that Benjamin mentioned was sold for about $5K Aussie two or three years ago by a lady in Newcastle IIRC. I'm supremely confident of turning one up one day down here, although slightly less confident of being able to afford it myself

There are quite a few "Ausssie version" loose WW megos floating around and popping up on Aussie ebay now and then, Cat in Sydney seems to have the knack of digging them up.

Nice website too btw, looks like you have a real labour of love going on there!

        Cheers,
        Will

That would be John Bonavita's book, he was the first person to own a carded Wonder Woman and he had to make up that number as he had no previous sales to track.

When he chose to sell it, he got far more than that for it.

So Variant Mego Collectors, some 30 years later, would pay a Premium for it.

'Cause Aussie Eyeball Variant Wonder Woman sounds cool.
