I had a ton of makeshift customs all inspired by Challenge of the Superfriends. Action Jackson became Sinestro thanks to a purple marker, Davey Crockett was Green Lantern.

I'm pretty sure that I used the heroes as Aliens when I played Star Trek.

I think the Secret Agent and Western AJ outfits got lots of extra use as Secret Identity outfits, and an inordinate amount of Mego characters served in the Military thanks to AJ as well.

I think Huggy Bear got the blame for his mystical ability to swap Superheroes heads on to Supervillians bodies and vice versa.

I made a few faux - customs myself, usually to address the scarcity of villains in the line. I even drafted quite a few action figures from other lines to stand in for the bad guys, regardless of whether they looked anything like the characters they were doubling for:

Dr. McCoy, wearing a Rookies shirt, became Per Degaton

The Excel Kojak (in pin stripes, but minus the hat) became Lex Luthor

A generic rubber gorilla was Grodd

That super Joe lizard monster guy was The Abomination

Martin Landau from Space: 1999 was The Weather Wizard (no resemblance, but I WAS just 8 years old ...)

            Dracula subbed as The Wizard

            Boss Hogg was The Toyman

Tomland Morlock was The Scarecrow (I sometimes referred to the morlock as Noodle Face, because at the time I'd never heard of a Morlock and I couldn't remember what the hell he was supposed to be)

Tomland Abominable Snowman was Mr. Freeze (mostly because he was blue and white)

I had one of those 10"-12" Star Wars knock off robots (silver body, green head) who I used as the robot version of Braniac.

One of my odder choices: The 10" Gabriel Lone Ranger, minus his accessories and with his clothes mussed up, became Solomon Grundy. Before I had the Lone Ranger, I used Epstein from "Welcome Back Kotter" as Grundy because he had ripped up clothes. Yikes!

"Regular" Megos (Happy Days, Starsky/Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard) became generic goons for the Joker or Lex Luthor (who was, you'll remember, actually Kojak...)

Several Johnny West figures, decked out in extra G.I. Joe or Ken doll clothes, became hulking goons and monsters, as well. The Remco monsters also fought the Mego heroes under assumed names.

A kid I went to school with brought his Batman and Robin figures to school once. He didn't have any villains at all, so Batman fought the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz, who was attended to by a harem of towering, Amazonian Barbies the kid had swiped from his sister.
