According to what he resold them at he did not make that much. I have been accused of scalped from time to time. I HATE that word. People who use this word really do not know anything about the secondary market (or third).

When you are buying vintage toys you first have to get the toy at a decent price and that include the price of getting the toy (s/h, gas and time). Then you have to figure out where you can sell it at a price where you feel comfortable with. At shows that is usually double and a half of what you paid. Booths cast so much along with transportation. You have to include that with every item that you carry.

Most of the time the dealer leaves some haggle room in there price ( the extra half). You have to remember, this is Wal-Mart who makes about $2 on each figure. Most comic book stores double there price to recoup there expenses.

      Thats how business works.

If he sold it for what he paid he'd be broke.

I know how it works....I don't need to see him doing it...

The show should be about Toys/History etc,NOT watching him line up his pockets and reselling everything...and we get that in EVERY episode!

It was a fun show for a number of good reasons. But ultimately I felt like it was undone by the hustling. I have so many things he showcased that I paid a fraction of what he claimed they went for consistently. And that was recent purchases around certain episodes. I also completely disagreed with his assessment of some things boxed that he lifted off collectors. If they were mildly banged up, he tried to suggest the box had no value, which is so untrue. Just because it wasn't a MIMB sample doesn't mean it doesn't have boxed value. So the math was never believable on allot of these shows. That and he ALWAYS overstated the rarity of items. He would soil his britches over things I could commonly find on Ebay. So while I get the need to stage a scene, I felt like they exaggerated availability and value that did not have to be part of that "entertainment" value. There were allot of uninformed people watching this show, so they likely took all of this at face value only to find out it wasn't true when they tried to duplicate those experiences.

Ultimately value is not for Jordan or any other dealer to dictate. Every deal is as individual and unique as the next one. What two people agree on in a transaction is ultimately the stated value at that moment. Whether it finds agreement with a collective body of dealers is really a moot point. If they do another show of this kind, I hope they dial back the big ticket price gouging and put more into the toys and people who collect them.

In Jordan's defence, it's only logical that he needs to sell stuff for twice what he paid.
If you look at what a booth at a convention costs, that would make your eyes bleed. Factor in transportation costs, paying staff, renting storage, paying taxes on what you sell.
So "doubling" your money isn't really that at all. A dealer friend of mine says his profit line is 35%, and I believe that.

On the other hand, I'm not a huge fan of the show because it links toys with money, and I collect for the love of the toy. I had a look at my collection, and most of the stuff that I love most is not the most expensive or rare.
So I watch Toy Hunter to see some toys, and I zone out when it comes to prices. I do feel that some items were sold at extremely low prices, where I felt the collector sold it because he just "couldn't refuse". Once those cameras are on you, refusing must be hard.
I also felt the show came across as rather artificial (which is the producers' responsibility), trying too hard to be entertaining.

Another store had box figure that was dusty, bent, but according to him they were MIP and the lowest price they had was $50 for an average figure from the 90's.

Jordon's show as well as the others have helped inflate the prices. It is as bad as Comic Book Men. I worked years at comic book stores and I can tell you you can goes weeks or months before you have somebody walk in with a great find that you can buy. I for one will be glad when all the shows are off air and the prices go back to normal.
Ebay had people doing that long before these types of shows came along. Can't tell you how many people at flea markets I ran into saying "I can get more for [whatever item they were selling] on Ebay." To which I would reply "Why is it here and not on Ebay then?"

My family likes to make a day of it. I used to be able to walk out with two bookbags full of loose figures for custom projects, old records, and comics. I would spend $100 each trip and have plenty to show for it. The last time I went I just bought a few old books and left with $80 in my pocket. Later that night I spent it on ebay and got what I wanted.

I have decided the next time we go I will just visit the old record stores and old paperback stores where my money can go longer.

He is going to be in Seattle? Booth or lecture? Haven't had a chance to take a look at the website except to order my tix.
