Mego Toy Store Pic from 1980

This awesome new colour picture of the Mego Superheroes in Gimbels demonstrates how the line had shrunk down it's core by this time. Note there is a whole display of 12" Incredible Hulk dolls and Remco Spider-Copters behind.

This just one of many vintage toy store shots that we have in the Mego Museum Ad Archive.

This image is from 1975 and shows an end cap of Mego Super Vators and Batcaves as well as an above average selection of G.I. Joe.

Look carefully at this Circus World image from 1976, you'll see something familiar in the window.

Another great scene from 1976, this time a WGSH Display box nestles calmly between a literal army of Adventure Team Joes.

Amazing picture! One of the best we've ever seen of WGSH in a store. It's 1980, yet that Hulk card looks like a 78...

That makes 1980 look like the 60's did to me when I was in High School in the 80's. Yeah, I know, it's 28 years ago, but it doesn't seem like it should look that OLD.

Even the the line is less by 1980, I love seeing that many carded figures sitting there like that. I imagine its like visiting Mark Huckabone

BTW, can you make out what is in the left foreground? I can easily make out Simons in the background, but the foreground items look "spacey" and they have black boxes. I also love the huge Mattel Electronic Football Game display on the back wall.

It looks like Capsela sets to me.

Awesome, I love that new pic. It just makes you wish you could step right into it and look around in the store.

That is so cool. I love that top pic. Imagine if you could go back in time to that exact moment when the pic was taken. Of course you would buy all the figures on that table but imagine the looks you'd get when you did.

Does anyone know how to make a time machine ?
                      I know I need a flux capacitor and a dodgy 80's car...

The Gimbels picture has to be the best in-store Mego photo I've ever seen! Great job, Brian. I am also intrigued by the Counter Display photo; I gather you scanned the photo from a 1976 industry magazine, but I wouldn't be surprised if the picture had been taken a few years earlier. The original (1st Wave only) Counter Display box and its contents look more like what was available during 1973/74.

Thanks for sharing. I just wish those old magazines were printed at a higher line screen. It's so difficult to make out any detail on a 100 line screen, black and white photo.

                        (sigh)

Please God, just send me back in time there for 5 minutes!!! Love that display box beside all the GI Joes.

The G.I. Joe selection kind of jives with '74. The carded figures started appearing around '75.
