    The Toy (1982)

I actually wrote two blogs tonight… very unusual. Anyway, the Mego Buzz-worthy blog revolves around the fascinating, 1982 Richard Pryor movie "The Toy."

This movie comes up on the boards every couple of months, for obvious reasons, but I figured it might be a good time to resurrect discussion of the famous "Wonder Wheel" scene. The board has added many new members recently, and I would love for the Mego Museum to definitively document the Mego goodness depicted in the film.

If you love "The Toy," please read the blog and post revelations and insight here.

Great movie. Wonder if those figures are sitting in a box in a storage area somewhere in Hollywood. Pryor just seemed to work well with other comediens. Even though they were very different people. This movie with Gleason and the numerous ones with Gene Wilder. Even with all his addictions, you rarely find a person that talks badly about him. Even his exes in interviews seem to have left him due to the drugs and alcohol and not the person he was. Always wondered how much more we would have seen from him if he hadn't spent all those years in a daze.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I believe that scene was actually shot at a department store called Godcheaux's, in downtown Baton Rouge. The movie was shot in Baton Rouge and there were scenes shot in this department store, but I do not know if this scene was shot there. This could have been shot in a studio later on in Hollywood.

This department store chain was sold to Dillard's a few years ago and this particular store closed in the mid-90's. It was the largest single story department store in the US (or something along those lines, I forget).

Anyone older than 35 remembers this store as the kick off point of the Christmas season here in Baton Rouge because Santa would arrive via helicopter, firetruck, etc.
