    Ebay Shutting Custom Mego's Down!

Well Im not a big Customizer But I do a Fair Business Restoring Mego's. I put together a Clark Kent and A Bruce Wayne and listed them on Ebay. I decribed the Reproduction items(suits, glasses, hat, shoes and Bruce Head) and listed them not thinking anything of it until the Next day when I received notice that the items were removed because of the use of the Brand Name Mego. I emmidiately Called and stated that the items were Mego and then they requested proof and I send a picture of the Copyright Stamp on the Figures backs. I thought this was an open and shut Case but the Appeal was denied and stated the Use of Custom outfits and Bruce Head was keeping it from being a Mego and that the item needs to be original to list as a Mego item. Im still Fighting this one, but now I think im fighting this for all of us. I could use some good arguement points and maybe even some vocal support. I can see with this way of Ebay thinking that even something like a repro cape Batman would not be concidered a Mego in thier Eyes..

there must have been a great deal of complaints for ebay to take that position,i wonder do they have a mego
expert on board to make sure no customs get on the mego listings, this is awful because now if someone
wants to sell a figure and its got custom parts, they cant tell a buyer who may buy it thinking their getting an
    original.confusing to say the least

All it takes is someone reporting an auction. There's a thread about it on here already- but someone made someone angry and the "Mego-like" auctions have been getting the hammer.
      Looking for:
      • Lincoln Monsters (Any condition)
      • Boxed Mego Monsters
      • AHI Jigglers / Bendy Monsters (Carded and Loose)
      • ANYTHING Monster related

I would just re list as Mego Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne bodies. You will get the same amount of attention.

Ebay goes throught this with customs. One month they allow them and when somebody complains they pull all customs done. In a few months they will be back up.

Wow. People list reproduction Arcade cast iron toys all the time. Where's the crackdown on that garbage? But a custom MEGO that is on a genuine MEGO body (there is nothing original about the repro Arcade garbage) gets pulled?
Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figures

Great news. I finally talked with someone (in Charge)who I could reason with and they did agree that the items were Mego and Canceled the restrictions on them and asked if I would be as clear as I can about which items were reproductions and which were actually Mego as I will continue to do... V-I-C-T-O-R-Y after a lot of Phone time. Wife is pleased I can see her and the kids again.LOL

This is another reason why I opened my own store online. Unfortunately, its not selling enough to cover the monthly fees, but I hold hope that it will grow so I can escape the tyranny of ebay.

What about selling on etsy? True, there are no auctions, but you might have an easier time.

This will probably go back and forth. Ebay will receive "complaints", kill some auctions but as people work harder like zkrom did, they will come back. Plus, Ebay is like any business, they can talk all day about their rules to you and me. If someone files the proper complaints and they start hearing from certain agencies about these complaints, their tune will change. Silly, that anyone would have to that far considering what we're talking about it, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it start happening if this comes up again.

I have often thought, what if they had a place like ebay to sell custom figures only. This place would charge a percentage of sales for marvel and dc for rights to make the customs.
Free market would weed out customs made in poor taste because that ? always comes up. If it is of poor quality feedback would take care of that and again free market would weed them out. They would make a lot of money off this site. Not to mention they could hire the guys that come up with great ideas. just an idea.

I think that's an awesome idea... and basically the equivalent of many big online music/TV/movie providers these days as far as having an agreement with all major studios.

As far as people complaining about Ebay's tyranny and over-priced stuff though... I don't really get what those complaints have to do with these auction problems. I mean, ANY auction site would have these "confusion over licensing" problems (except the one that resembled Cap Mego's hypothetical). Like someone pointed out above, this is more about blaming Ebay USERS for making reports or whatnot. Any one with a bug up their chug can file a complaint, right?

If anything, Ebay (at the moment) is a great benefit to buyers and sellers of customs alike. Annd, even IF you were to just knee-jerk parrot the ol' "Ebay are such bad dudes" bit, as always, there's no alternative that I can find to get the toys that I want. If you guys come up with anything better, I'll be looking forward to seeing postings about it, because, HEY, I'm not gonna look a "better than ebay for toys gift horse" in the mouth!
