    Mego Wayne Foundation

Hello. I am still a newbie here but had/have megos since the 70's. I remember one morning waking up one christmas and I got the Wayne Foundation with Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Spiderman. My brother and I were so happy and we played with it tour years. It leaned like the tower of Pisa so we tied it to the bed for support and still played with it till the floor boards fell apart. We then turned our bookshelf into a Wayne Foundation. I still have to this day the orginal backdrops and most of the plastic furniture.

Many years later I keep checking ebay for another WF and they would go for up to and over a thousand dollar. I would get mad and I stopped looking. That was until I found out the FTC was going to come out with repro of the DC Megos. So I looked on ebay and found a near complete Wayne Foundation and bought it for $500. I also found a mint blue Batcycle, Batcopter, and Batcave for under $400. The first thing I wanted to ask but dare not is what happen to the Mego market. I know with the news of that FTC is going to re-release alot of Megos but this was before the news came out. Megos used to cost lots of money, and now they seem to be affordable on the secondary collector market. I am at a loss. I am happy to be able to complete my Megos again before the repros come out, but what happened?

It depends... There could be any numbers of reasons... Stuff that was more rare are coming up a lot more often, condition has a lot to for with it, the economy, and what most of us have been saying the stuff we buy is worth what someone is willing to pay for it... Each and every one of us has been blessed to find those great deals and then there's the flip side where we have paid above premium for something we need. Good luck on your continued purchases and welcome aboard!!!

I think a few years back it was much harder to get a WF - I would also look for them and they were very expensive. That time period there would be like 1 listed every few months at best.

In the last few months I have seen a ton of them on e bay - so that helps keep the costs down.
also like bronxboy said there are other factors as well

IMO it is mostly due to the fact that more are being listed, and people are broke. So the ones selling are taking less to get a few bucks. and the ones buying cant afford the 1000.00 versions. so this is also why they are cheaper. again IMO

That makes since. I am surprised at how many survived.

Now that FTC has stated that they want to release the old playsets one has to wonder how much it would cost. I personnaly cannot see anybody re-releasing this in its orginal form. It leans too much and lets face it, it is not made for kids today. The thing would fall apart in a matter of days. What I can see is using the backdrops and redoing it in a plastic shell. But then again the TMNT tall TRU exclusive playset sold for $100-150. How much would a new Wayne Foundation go for?

            Tell me about your WF

Thanks I also have a complete Batcave and a Batlab (needs some parts but I got it cheap) and Hall of Justice. The only thing I am missing is the Batmobile. I want to wait until Mattel 60's Batmobile comes out to see it the Megos will fit in it.

But if the price is right I will be getting the Mego Batmobile and the Jokermobile to complete my DC Collection.

            I am curious though

*who here still has the Wayne Foundation?
*did you get it during the 70's and played with it?
*Did you get it off of ebay and have it locked away?

and if you tell about your expirance with this playset.

Mine is in a display as well. I have my Hall of Justice on top and the Batcave below. I am going to redo my Wayne Foundation soon. Instead of the orginal floor boards I am ging to use anothe bookcase and use the shelves for the floors. This will make it very sturdy and I will redo the elevator to look like the prototype. When I do I will post photos.

I remember that Hulk hideout. I used to have it, but it was thrown away over time. I was really disappointed in it when I got as a kid. Wayne Foundation was a great playset, but the Hulk playset was just a flat pieace.

The Hulk headquaters was an odd choice to make in my opinion but I liked it I would have loved a few Hulk enimies and Banner AE figure to go with it.

                          Wayne Foundation box

I now have two boxes to my Wayne Foundation. They are in beat up condition and can lay flat. I was wondering if anybody here knows how rare the boxes are.

The reason I ask. I want to take one of my boxes and cut it in half so that I can fram them in two seperate pieaces. I know this must sound crazy but if I do not I am afraid what might happen to them. I have my first WF from the 70's and it still shocks me that it has been destoryed through all the moves I have done in all these years.

Any idea please let me know.

I sold my Wayne Foundation last year, but I made scans of the backgrounds which I'd eventually like to fit into the back of a plastic shelf unit for a more permanent and sturdy display. Having the original just sit in storage in the basement made me worry that it might get mold or mildew damage from moisture during the more humid weather.
