Similar to the stories here I was born in 1971, but by the time I was old enough to knwo what toys I wanted Mego was already trimming the WGSH and Star War swas the rage.
I had the big four "Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, and The Hulk" but only Dukes and Trek beyond that. One of my childhood friends owned Cap, a circle suit Spidey, Shazam and his brother had Robin. Spidey and that Shazam remain in my collection to this day. Same friend and his brother also had boxed Joker and Penguin they refused to open. My mom also managed to pick me up a boxed Iron Man at flea market. Later I saw the Pin Pin FF's at closeout but I was done with Megos by that time. Outside of a Riddler sighting when i very young (I remmeber because I pointed out to mom he had Batman's belt, but it was purple) I never saw any of the othe rfigures during childhood. They were just in Heroes World ads that seemingly mocked me with treasures I'd never have. Part of all that it what made and still makes collecting thsi line so much fun today. Finally seeing.owning these figures after all this time or owning things I remember seeing in stores (like some of the carded figures).Comment

I was born in 1970. My parents would not buy me any 8" figures for some reason...maybe they thought they were too close to Barbie size? Fortunately, my close friends had Star Trek Megos and some superheroes. (<; My folks did, however, cave and buy Mego CAH figures and playsets as well as Star Wars 33/4" every so often. No exclusives and no chase figures, please - I'm Canadian!Comment

Wow, that's some impressive set up! You could also use that for the 6" Lion Rock figures. Nicely done!
I had never owned an 8" Mego action figure, mainly because the scale of my toys was already established in the very late 60's. I had rubber jigglers, who were generally 4-1/2" to 6" tall and not quite proportioned like normal human beings (because most of them were NOT human beings! They were bears, apes, frogs, rats and monsters).
That said, I was an admirer of MEGOs, especially the Action Jackson line (about 1971), My Dad bought us Action Jackson outfits, and Action Jackson accessories such as the Treehouse, for us to play with using our jigglers. I remember the AJ stuff being much better proportioned for them, compared to the 12" Gi Joe stuff.
Alas, all of my old AJ stuff is long gone, tossed out around 1975 or so.
About 2 years ago, I made a re-creation of the AJ treehouse, scaled down to the 4-1/2" to 6" figures, including the crow's nest and ladder, the tiki head, and the Zulu shield and spear. I even managed to find a $1.50 flashlight that sort-of looks like the searchlight. So, in a way, the spirit of my old Action Jackson stuff still lives on!

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

I was born in 1976 and had 8" Supes, Batman and Robin, Spider-Man and Hulk. I had a Fonzie and a Kirk and didn't really know who Kirk was. One Christmas I got a 12" Spider-Man with fly away action and it blew my mind! I also had the same pocket heroes but always preferred the 8" heroes. They were the favorite toys of my youth. I handsome of the Star Wars stuff but it was never as cool to me. I still have the Spider-Man that my mom got me in the first grade as an after school surprise.Comment

I'm the exact opposite. I remember the DAY I saw a spin rack of removable cowl Batmans and Robins hanging out of their solid boxes. It was such a moment to see figures like that. For my generation, Star Wars really ruined all that. After the movie broke big, everything got scaled down to tiny figures that didn't have enough plastic to make one Mego leg. So that was the beginning of the end for my action figure years as a kid. I was in middle school when Star Wars came out anyway, so I was trending into a different phase of my life anyway. But the tiny figures helped get me there faster.). My Mego life followed pretty much the same path. Although I wasn't bug eyed by WGSH's on the rack, it was POTA figures and playsets that had me unable to sleep through the night. I also hated the tiny figures. I would have given them all to dogs to chew on if I had the chance. And, by the time Star Wars came out and tiny figures became the norm, I was too old to play with them any longer and was looking forward to driving. Turns out I am thankful for that with the obsession in Star Wars figures. I couldn't afford the hobby if I was into those as well.

I vividly can recall going with my father to buy a gift for my little brother (whom had a ton of megos) and being in the toy store ( I want to say it was children's palace) and just seeing rows of carded megos. I must have lost my mind. This was my first time seeing them in the store. My dad was a comic book collector who never let us touch his books, but that day he bought all of us a mego. I got my first spider-man, he also bought the Thing, Thor and Robin. I have been obsessed with Megos ever since. I never had any of the Dukes, happy days or star trek megos, but none of my friends had the either.Comment

I was born Sept 1969, got my first Mego's for my 3rd or 4th birthday Superman RC batman, and Robin. From that point on I had Cap, spidey,Hulk Green Goblin, Ironman, Falcon, Joker, Penguin, Conan, non RC Batman, Green Arrow, Kid Flash, the Batmoblie, Green Arrow car, Aquaman for a day( I returned him because of the pointy ears).Shazam, 12 inch Superman, CAH Batman, Superman, Aquaman. Fonzie and spock. When star wars hit I did slow down with the Megos like everyone else, but they would still come out to reek havoc!
For the love of Mego'sComment
