    Mego Disasters

Anyone have any stories of a Mego getting destroyed accidetly? I remember the last brand new Mego I bought was Mr. Fantastic. Got him at Child World. It must have been around 1978. I remember I was getting old for playing with dolls. I was 12-13. I opened Reed and posed him on a lamp on my desk. I wet out to hang with friends and left the light on. I came home to Reed's legs melted to the light bulb. Had to throw him away he was beyond hope and I had him for only a day or so before the tragedy.

I received a boxed Penguin when my youngest sister was born. (My other sister & I each got a natal toy to make up for the trauma lol.)

On the drive home from the hospital, she broke his knee--he was barely out of the box! Luckily, my grandpa fixed it with a brass brad.

I'd love to go back in time and prevent the pyromaniac incident that wiped out my childhood Mego collection.

I have a most unfortunate incident in my childhood involving lime green crayons and a small pile of toys, including a Mego, riding in the back of a black Ford Pinto.

Having left these items in the car during a very hot '70's Ohio summer, those crayons melted with an inferno-like force, fusing a Soldier Ape, army men and coloring book into a big pool of mutated goo. The black interior of the car was also stained neon green after prying the mess out after it dried.

On the downside I lost a cool Mego, but on the upside this helped contribute to a series of events that got rid of the Pinto before the whole car ignited.

Well, if any of you have ever come across a Penguin with a mustashe drawn on his face with a ballpoint pen and missing one of his hands. There's a good chance that's my old figure.

And then there's the old Kirk that I ripped the neck plug off of.

The worst disaster I recall was as an adult collector. I received a nice minty loose Iron Man in the mail. I took his glove off to inspect his hand and >POP< his glove split at the seam. I was beside myself. My wife still makes fun of my reaction to this day.

Got a carded Bo Duke from someone on this site a couple of years ago. The mailman left the box outside where my dog got a hold of it. Never did find all of the body parts.

Once I put a 9 inch Ming head into acetone to shrink it and the head broke into several pieces as it absorbed the acetone.

I had a collector come into the shop and tell me about a wayne foundation, a pile of megos, a shogun godzila and can of lighter fluid and a swimming pool......the horror.
