The good people at EMCE toys have given us a better look at their upcoming Lon Chaney “Phantom of the Opera” figure and we’re all better for it. It’s weird to wishing for Halloween 2013 already….
IMO, This is the best retro figure to date, and certainly the best of the monsters. Dead-on likeness, and the outfit is just incredible. Unfortunately, he makes that horrible Dracula look even worse.
I think this is just marvelous. The attention to detail in making his suit distinct from Dracula is impressive. And although I might alter the paint app very slightly, I love the sculpt. Using an altered Sideshow cloak on the prototype is neat.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.
Those guys are really raising their game there. The sculpt and paint work is on par with Sideshow's 12" Monsters!
I hate to beat up on Dracula, but the Phantom got new hands, and Dracula has those orangey-hands. Dagnabbit!!!
Chris
Beat away! Aside from the clothes, that figure is horrible. Next to Frank, Mummy and Wolfman, it looks like it's from a different line. It's a shame they couldn't get the Lugosi license...I've seen better heads on Pez dispensers.

Dracula is one of my favorites BUT i will admit it's because of my perspective as a vintage monster collector. Traditionally when you look at monster lines like Remco or AHI, the Dracula likeness has always been generic, many toy companies like Marx didn't even bother to make a Dracula because of likeness rights. So I'm a fan of generic Dracs as a result.
I did swap his hands though.

Yeah, that's true, but there's good generic and bad generic. I really love the headsculpt on the Remco mini-monster. The nine inch one is okay, but not my favorite. I just think they missed the mark on the new one. The headsculpt on the Diamond Select figure was pretty good. Who knows? Maybe they can revisit him someday...I've heard nothing but horror stories about dealing with Lugosi Jr. regarding likeness rights, so I understand why they did it.
