Childworld 1975: Mego Wizard of Oz Ad

For the remainder of the week, we'll be looking at some wonderful clippings from a 1975 newspaper circular for Childworld in 1975 with it's wonderfully recoloured Mego Reproduction Art. First up is Mego Wizard of Oz which was another big attraction in 1975 for Mego. Check back everyday this week for a new piece from this flyer.

I know I wasn't paying attention when this was discussed, but what kind of seller was this line? And did it sell better with girls?

      Great colors, indeed.

I'm not sure how well it sold. My instinct says not well, but they sure put a lot into it with expanded playsets in 76...

My feeling is it burned brightly but not for a long time, the orders written at the '75 toy fair probably were enough to call it a success but I doubt it had lots of staying power. It was done in two years, so likely the sales diminshed in '76.

Well, I think what they did was brilliant and very indicative of the day. Back then there were tons of players (not anymore) and you wrote orders at the show (now not so much, trust me).

What better way to generate orders than to fill a room full of buyers, feed them, keep their glasses full, and have them hobnob with icons from their youth? IMO the Oz line was a good idea to begin with but that event had to put it over the top.

That IS fantastic. I'd have been sold, especially with that star power.

Very cool. Looks like a girl in the ads, but remembering the Dutch Boy / Bowl haircuts of the time ,the kid is pretty androgynous.
