The figures look great. A lot of work goes into these.
In the off chance Adama's accessory doesn't include a removable beard I'm going to have to buy 2 figures and sculpt one on. Galactica 80 rears its ugly head when you least expect it.
I actually like the head sculpts from the prototype pictures. The head sculpt for Starbuck is MUCH better than the 12" Starbuck figure released by Majestic a few years back. Although Majestic nailed Adama and Apollo, the Starbuck left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately they folded before producing Cain, Athena, Lucifer, Boomer, etc. Hope all of these come to fruition and we get to see a Mego-style Baltar, Athena, and Boomer. Wonderful time for Classic (the only) Battlestar series fans, especially with the new movie coming out next year....
I agree. I think the Starbuck sculpt needs some work. And the Colonial pilot uniforms need some work. It is not just the jackets, the shirts are missing the pleats or whatnot... as a matter of fact, the Klingon shirt, done in the right material, would have just the right look.
But I have confidence BBP will get these kinks worked out. Most of the prototypes in the line look fantastic!
Well, prototypes are prototypes... and even putting up a sign about the head size hasn't stopped the large head questioning. Maybe it's like sweeping back the tide.
I'll happily not be able to form any opinions until we see production samples, and I have all of them on pre-order. Even having said all that, I think the comments should be instructive to the process of design finalization, and I'll add I hope Adama's cape gets wider. He always wore it covering one shoulder and folded up back over itself on the other... Unless that's happening here, it looks like the initial tailoring doesn't cover enough real estate.
Yeah, he used it quite a bit actually, when he was dictating at his desk, even more so on the last few episodes.
Totally agreed on these back in the day, would have LOVED to have had them.
The jackets need a LOT of work.. I've seen them for the 12" figures as well and have been totally disappointed. The basic style of them cannot be THAT hard to replicate/minaturize. The cuffs on the coat sleeve, the waist design, the clasps, all could easily be done.
Look at the vintage MP coat for GI Joes, except for the collar/lapels, it could serve as a great base for a Galactica coat. Nevermind the fact it's 1:6, you can reduce it in size for a Mego figure, without incurring that much manufacturing cost.
Sure it's an investment, but even a LITTLE closer accuracy would be appreciated. But as most will probably comment, it's nice to at least have the figures.., then customize.
Having said that, LOVE the Cylons and the Apollo head sculpt.
Didn't really pay much attention to these so I missed out on these Toy Fair photos. I just went through some of the galleries and I think I'm going to be skipping a lot of these figures. The lines I'm mainly interested in are BG, SMDM and TZ.
The elimination of the Mego female neck already bothered me. Now it looks like a lot of the females are being made with feet with sculpted on shoes. Looks like the Android sister, Fembot, Nurse, Maya, and Alicia all have this.
I'm still a Mego purist at heart and I only buy these figures because they are supposed to be Mego style. I wouldn't buy any of these licenses in another format. But the elimination of the Mego neck, to go along with sculpted on shoes, and in some cases, molded hair, is going to keep me from getting most of these.
Of the face sculpts, I think Starbuck is my least favorite. He looks a little "weak", missing Benedict's cocky attitude.
Adama looks absolutely great.
And yes, those jackets need some work, the fabric isn't sturdy enough, and the shoulders look too "droopy", they should be a little more square.
