So I finally join mego museum and the following day I get a call to buy someone's mego collection. Mego Museum karma? First the backstory...
Do you ever go to antique shows and see the old guy with the t-shirt that says"I buy yo-yo's" or whatever or the person wearing a wooden placard(!) which is cumbersome and wince inducing to say the least (I saw this)and looks really heavy but you wonder if it works? So I finally break down and go to my next show, Doll and Teddy Bear Show (you do what ya gotta do fellow mego collectors), my very young daughter refuses to attend so I figure if I'm gonna go, I'm gonna atleast be a walking advertisement in search of mego. I didn't go to the extreme but I did carry a medium sized suitcase plastered with color images of wgsh and "I Buy". I also did it for the local antiques show and handed out flyers to those interested. A few months pass and my leads dwindle; people change their mind because it was their sons (sentimental) or they can't find them anymore (typical). One very strong lead dissipated because they realized their "ebay" employee scammed and took all the megos to boot. Often you get "call back in two weeks" and then your told that multiple times or its expanded to "call in a month". This can go on for a year. So anyway i join mego museum and next day the last lead calls me (!), I race down there and there are several high grade loose wgsh and two carded wgsh! I nervously ask how much and they say how much you got and I sheepishly empty my entire wallet in front of them with all the money I had on me and say, what can this get me? (i know, always ask what they want for 'em first but i was too shocked to be savvy) They said take it all and I thank mego museum for the good karma.
So don't be afraid to wear the shirt or placard in public!
