Messages on the old mego Yahoo group are still there.

Wow i stumbled upon my old joining message to the Mego yahoo group from Jan 20th, 2001. I'm amazed that these old messages are still on the data base. I wonder what other gems of mego info are still on there.
It also says that the Mego yahoo group was formed in March 20th 2000.

    Well here you go?

Yahoo! Groups (that's message 16, but #17 is where it gets interesting!)

I wonder if anything from the Levy list is kicking around the nets?

The yahoo lists were formed after the Levy list was disbanded in 1999. For a while there were two, one was run by Dean and one by Joe, Dean deleted his for reasons forgotten.

Keene has some old Levy list stuff and a consortium of us pay him a monthly fee to not release it.

I actually remember when Yahoo had groups AND clubs before realizing they were redundant. Without going into detail (because it would be way OT) I actually built a strong presence for a site a ran at the time (early 2000's) based soley on leveraging those things. It's crazy to think how popular they were then and how obsolete they are now.

Ron Pringle was my first online pal! We did an amazing trade for Lords of Light figures that I still own.

So when did the list-serves evolve to the forum, and how many iterations of the forum were there?

During our tenure at RTM, we just had one of those style of boards. It was horrible, the anymous posting meant tons of threats and stupidity, I hated it.

The only way to moderate it was to wipe it clean, which I had to do a couple of times.

When we moved away from RTM in 2000, Joe created the first ikonboard and within a couple of years the yahoogroup use slowly dwindled away. Joe and I still update and take care of it but it's nothing like it was.

Heh, I just visited the Mego Yahoo Group for the first time in years. I remember the RTM board, but never posted there, I hated it too. The Yahoo Group was cool though, but I mostly just lurked. It was pretty active back in the day though. I was browsing through it a bit now, and I did find some posts I made that I don't even remember making. I found a cool thread where we were talking about the Lili Ledy superheroes back in Jan 2001. I recognized some names who are still in the hobby and post here now, and there are a bunch of other folks who seem to be long gone. Nice trip through memory lane though, I'm really glad that it's still there for posterity's sake.

I just read some of the posts from 2002 about the WGSH silkscreen suits that someone was trying to pass off as vintage - who was that?

I remember finding the yahoo group way back but not being able to wrap my mind around the concept of online message boards. I was still getting used to the new website I had found called ebay.
