Toy and Comic show in Lexington, KY this weekend

Lexington Comic & Toy Con 2012

I knew this was coming, but I just now checked out the website. Not a bad guest-list for this area. My son will love all the Power Ranger actors there.

I'm planning on going early, as we have a Cub Scout event later in the afternoon. If any of you local guys are going, let me know. Hopefully we can chat for a minute if nothing else!

This was actually a pretty good show. Largest Lexington's ever had for sure. Lots of dealers. Got some nice old comics for cheap. I saw a few Megos, all at the same booth. Tail-ender Aquaman with blue gloves on Superman card for $150. 12" Spidey Canadian-boxed for $250 (that one seemed a bit high). Set of Bo, Luke and Boss Hogg Dukes 3 3/4" figures for $150 (also a bit high it seems). Lots of Star Wars, and due to the presence of the actors, TONS of Power Rangers. That early stuff was going for a hefty price and was selling, judging by the folks walking around with it in their arms.

I remember telling my wife way back in the 90s that if we were smart we'd be collecting Power Rangers stuff, since mostly kids were buying it up and ripping the packaging open and actually playing with it. And that one day, THOSE kids would want it all back, MIP. I was right. Meanwhile tons of 90s Star Wars, Marvel and Batman product was piled up either at or below original retail. Sigh.

Yeah, his card looked really nice to me. No sticker over the Superman logo. I probably should have bought him, but that's out of my budget.

I went to the show today. Not great, for stuff to buy.
                The guest were good.
There were just to many singel item sellers (self promoters)
You know they made a comic, and are selling only that.
Or doing drawings, a book or something.

                But I snaged a Mr.Scott $8, a 12"Spidy w/broken leg. like new suit. $5
And a EMCE Klingon MOC $10
And Amazing Spiderman #141, that I droped somewhere???
But the turn out was very, very good. Tons of fans.
It should make it a regular convention??

Well, I didn't feel that I was educated enough on it to bite. $150 didn't sound bad, but I didn't examine it either. May have been a repro card, reseal, you name it. I don't follow carded sales. And my luck on this kind of stuff SUCKS. Sounds like I may have possibly skipped on a good buy. The overprice on the 12" Spidey in the same booth made me wary too. I know those things set in Diamond's warehouse for decades.

Nice. I saw that 12" loose Spidey. I had one, so I passed, but that's a good deal there.

With the attendance they had, I think we'll see another show next year.

I was actually gonna try to make it to Lexington today (it's about an hour from me), but got tied up with other matters. I was most looking forward to talking to Mike Grell again after many years and getting him to sketch me a Shakira or Jon Sable. Perhaps next year...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

^Good luck talking to Grell. Not because of him, he was friendly...but there was some guy who refused to leave his table, and continuously talked AT him to the side. I barely got in 3 words. People like that should be taken out and flogged.

I think you made the right decision Chris. If the guy is overpriced on the 12 inch Spidey, it's inconceivable he would overlook a rare item like this. I bet that was probably a repro card. At that price, it would not have sat there if was the real deal.

That happened to me many years ago at a convention I went to and the guest was...Mike Grell. In my case I only got in 1 word. "Hello."

I can't stand people like that!
