    De-Grey issue

A few weeks ago, I acquired a nice looking Mr. Fantastic with one problem... Grey-head. Mego Mold.

I didn't think it would be a problem, I've seen the tutorial hee on the museum... a little Tire Wet, some Plasti-dip... no problem, Right?

    Nope.

SIx dips now and no change whatsoever.

The only difference between my setup and the tutorial is the fact taht my Plastidip is black rather than red... Does that make a difference?

    Hmmmm....

I think it has to be red to work, as I think it's the colour leeching out of the dip that recolours the plastic.

I've had a lot of luck repainting them with automotive vinyl paint. It doesn't come in many colours, so it's a helluva job mixing up a usable skin tone. It soaks right in though, countermanding some of the sticky, and returning some pliability.

Actually the color doesn't cause the vinyl to re-color. It was figured out
here a while ago that the plastidip takes the surface level off the vinyl,
which is where the gray effect is, because of something in the vinyl that
        reacts with the air.

Dave McCormick told me that all the heads he has de-grayed using this
method all grayed again over the space of a few years, so the treatment
        is not permanent.

They turn grey because the orange pigment used in the plastic fades over time.
I turned a zombie Daisy Duke back to skin again with a quick dunk in orange RIT dye.
Do quick dips with a rinse in water after each dip until it looks right.

The robin head I did over ten years ago hasn't turned grey again. There go all those theories.

That's great to hear. I plastidiped an Aquaman head several years ago,
but I can't find it again, so Dave Mc's experience was all the solid info
              I had heard.

How many times did you have to 'dip that Robin? How long did you
leave it drying - a day or a week? Like any procedure, results have
to be duplicated in separate places and follow-ups have to be done
              to measure long term results.
