I have no particular memory of Christmas Day itself, except for playing with those dolls.

I am not exaggerating when I say this was probably my happiest childhood moment. And my parents were not big on taking photos. So to see a photograph of it is beyond words… I just keep staring at it, and memories keep washing over me (for instance, losing one of Invisible Girl's boots and falling out of love with the single-shod figure).

For me, this is like having a time machine with exceptional accuracy.

I completely relate with that. I have only three pictures of me holding Megos on Christmas morning. Those were Action Jackson figures. Megos truly defined happiness in my youth. So much of that had to do with the simple fact that I had no figures to use as a vehicle for all of these adventures I had in my head. My mom use to draw and cut out a picture of Spider-man so I would have a figure, of sorts, to play with after watching the '67 Spider-man cartoon. Need I say the reaction I had the day Mego released a 8 inch clothed figure? Kids today can not relate with the sheer magic of what Mego's brought to our lives. They were truly life changing moments.

What a great pic and story, Benjamin, congrats! I'm still vainly hoping to find something like this in my family's photo archives, but keep coming up empty.

That is an awesome picture. The look on your face is fantastic. big ole OMG!!

I'm like Chris - looking for some family pics of things I know should be somewhere. My dad was a photo bug - always with his camera for family events. So I know there should be some good stuff somewhere, but I have yet to find it.

Ben, that is a fantastic picture and a great memory of that moment!

^Very true. Even my kids who love to play with the figures, do not do so on the level that we did. It is hard to explain all of the things play meant to a generation who did not have instant television, internet, dvds, etc.

Thanks for all the fun comments!

It's fun to share this with people who really really really get where I'm coming from…non-toy collectors and those who aren't Mego fan friends probably can't appreciate the level of joy I'm talking about.

That may have been true for other kids, but not in my case. I was bananas about the packaging, even then. You can see the yellow Superman insert on my other side, next to the apple, but I did not discard my Mego boxes (I called them "coffins") right away as I'm sure many kids did.

Part of my 'play' was to put my Heroes back inside their boxes and stare at them. I thought they looked amazing in those brightly colored boxes. Still do!

                          Hey Ben,
When I read your original call for Christmas foto's and Mego's. I too started searching for pic's. Would'nt you know, I came up empty. From memory I can say I only had 2 Mego Christmas's. My first was when I got an A.J., His snow outfit and the snowmobile. We'are talking loooong ago. My parents were'nt concerned with recording these moments back then. A few years later I recieved Star Trek kirk and spock. Still no pics though. In later years, Christmas pics of me and my brothers were taken and I realized why these images were taken on these few odd Christmas's. Those were the years someone in the family got a camera for Christmas. LOL.
Another thing to note. As my parents grew older. I guess they realized the importance of documenting moments on film. Nowadays, My Mother begs me to take foto's at every family event and reminds me to the point of aggrivation to bring a (Non digital)camera.
Check out my picture library of Mego-ish compatible vehicles with ID data.

Wow! Although I don't know you, it's as if, just by looking at the photo, I can hear you from 36 years ago, yelling in excitement, "yeeeeeaaa!!!! Thank you, thank you thank you!!!" ... Awesome photo!

Couldn't help but get the ear-to-ear when I see this action shot. You're so obviously completely overwhelmed with joy!

Count me in as one of those who felt like putting them back in their box was part of the play. It somehow kept them a little new. I can remember being distinctl;y disappointed when cards proved impossible to open with some sort of damage.
