Factory Sample Pocket Heroes Wonder Woman

This “wonderful” (pun intended) item was recently discovered in the desk of a prominent toy designer/sculptor who received it from Mego, likely to give them an idea of scale. The most notable difference between it and a factory produced item is the lack of copyright and of course variations in the colour scheme. It’s always great to see something that we’ve never seen before, let’s hope more vintage factory samples surface in the coming months.

Really neat find. But still one of Mego's worst sculpts.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

She's a beauty queen compared the earlier "Johnny Cash IS Wonder Woman" sculpt.

                  Cool find on the proto!

There was absolutely no excuse for that sculpt and yes the second sculpt is better than that one. Hard not to be. They obviously weren't even trying with the first one. It's like a practical joke that some how made it to production. But it still doesn't make the second sculpt a good one and it is definitely the poorest sculpt of the 3 3/4 inch heros, in my opinion.

Fisher Price Adventure people had lots of nice looking female head sculpts in that scale and Mego seemed to really struggle with it. The two 3 3/4 inch Daisy Dukes were equally bad.

How is it possible we still uncover so much Mego history? But hey, who's complaining, this is amazing

Agreed. I don't think female head sculpts in any format were Mego's strong point. Their women tended to either look too cute (like the Super Gals) or too hard (like Invisible Girl).

It's not that surprising since many of the people from the MEGO era are
of retirement age, so cleaning out offices and basements may yield
                              more goodies.

I get samples from China all the time that get stuffed in a bag and
buried in a box after the project is out the door.

What also helps is ebay. Now everyone knows that odd, one of
a kind things can bring big money on ebay - like Lynn Chaney's unique romance novel.
