    Mego of the Week

This week on Mego of the Week we have a question....

What was the first Mego you saw as an adult that you never saw as a child?

I have 2 that stand out. The first was Iron Man.

I remember seeing one in person at a show in Atlanta way back when. It was so cool looking. Cost me $20 for the loose one and it's still in my collection.

Green Arrow was the second one. I always remember wanting one looking at the Heroes World catalogs. Then I ordered a MIB one from a toy catalog I ordered from Toy Shop. Cost me $45 and he too is still in my collection.

    So, what's yours......

For me a couple of quick stand out figures are the Conan and Tarzan Mego figures. I never even knew that those figures existed as Mego's until I started actually collecting Mego's as an adult. I never remember seeing them at all as a kid.

Man----seeing that Iron Man MEGO takes me back to my days of being a kid, spending summers in Pompano Beach with my sister and going to Lionel Playworld and being in absolute aw of seeing and then OWNING an IRON MAN action figure!!! Don't get me wrong, I liked the SPIDER-MAN figure, but IRON MAN was the first comic book character I fell in love with and to see him as a figure and play with him was oh-so cool. Unfortunately for me, I loved him to death as he fell apart after a couple of years and I never could find another one! Oh for a time machine!!!!!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

        Sorry, got sidetracked by nostalgia.

The first couple of MEGO's I only heard about when I was younger, but never saw until I was an "adult" (whatever age constitutes that) were the STAR TREK MEGO's and, I think, TARZAN. If anyone in Louisville carried them back in the day, I never ran across them....

          What a fantastic thread idea!

For me it was the Speedy Teen Titans figure. It was MOC in Chicago at the comicon back in 1990. I never knew those existed! When i asked how much, I was floored at the $200.00 price. I didn't buy it, wish I had. I now have my Teen Titans loose and in awesome The Toyroom repro boxes. Thrilled to have them.

i can't remember for sure, but in the early 90's i saw the fantastic 4 in a tomart's, i think, and was totally blown away that there were megos i never knew existed...of course after the internet i found out about A LOT of megos i never knew existed

on a similar note i had a mission to gamma playset my mom bought at a garage sale, and i had no idea it was an accessory for my favorite megos at the time

I grew up with Megos when they were new. But there was one figure that eluded me until I was a young adult. That was Kid Flash. I saw him illustrated in the Heroes World comic book as a kid. And even then he was advertised only for one issue! But our local stores never seemed to have him in stock. They had all of the other Teen Titans, but I never saw Kid Flash. So it wasn't until 1991 when I was at a convention called Lex Trek in Lexington, Ky that I first laid eyes on him. What surprised me was his size. Since I had never owned any of the other Titans as a kid, I never really took notice of their reduced size. So that was a big surprise for me. And it wasn't until the eve of 9/11 that I won my first Kid Flash figure on Ebay during a wild bidding war that ended with a retraction that allowed me to get it. With shipping I paid right at $99.00. A complete steal even by today's prices. All original and mint. He's one Mego that holds a very special place for me.

Quite a few for me actually. Alter Egos for one. Titans for another. Dinah Mite and Action Jackson too. It seems for me,it was mostly stuff at the beginning and at the end of Mego's time.
