Great thread with some great ideas! The adventure sets would be awesome, adding current things like some sort of a snowboard alpine mission, etc.. The villian idea is great too. The updated look would be a must . . . does Mod Hair even exist?

I totally love the BW as AJ.... The Shazam head is pretty cool also... The military side of AJ was what made him so cool..... sports??? If that was my thing I'd have begged mom for a Big Jim. What was weird though was the uniform choices ... Ausie Marine? Army uniform looks like OD pants with an Ike jacket. Why didn't we get a Green Beret? Airborne Ranger? As far as accessories go.... Mr Action equipment bag in AJ scale would have been awesome. Cool topic!!!

My thing about the AJ sets was very few of them fit into the "Adventure Set" idea for me. Most of them were very little more than the basic uniform. What I really liked about the Joe and even Lone Ranger sets was that a set had a whole storyline made into it. Props to make a story were missing completely from the Aj sets. I loved the prototype adventure sets that were photographed fro Mego Batman and Superman and I wish these had been made.

I don't think AJ could hold his own in 2012 sitting on a peg at Toys R Us, but I do think limited edition runs ala Brick Mantooth would sell like crazy!!

If done in limited quantities and sold to the collectors market, these would sell.

I was looking at the GI Joe Collectors Club figure for this year.... Man of Evil... A fantastic idea. Two years ago they redid Spy Island as an Exclusive to their annual Convention... Spy Gear re-done, scuba set redone, and they included a robotic shark. They also had a henchman.
Subsequent years had other re-imagined sets ... A lot of great ideas that could be transfered over to AJ.

WOW...whatta cool concept for AJ.......release the exact same outfits but with a modern upgrade.

Picture a scarmble cyclist with today's fashion.

Not so much talking a re-make or an update...more like an alternate history...

I never liked the AJ original sculpt.

To me, it looked like a really ugly version of the actor, Warren Stevens, who played Rojan on that episode of Star Trek: The Original Series.

Definately agree... Blonde bearded AJ was my companion for a couple of months... till he broke followed by red bearded AJ .... followed by a brown headed AJ.. many bold adventures in the backyard... I just wish there had been more playsets and maybe a carying case command center... I vaguely remember my brother having this cool Major Matt Mason carry case that had a lighted view screen and such... easily could have been done for AJ...

AJ was my biggest link to Mego as a kid. I had 4 or 5 AJ's and Spidey and Cap. I would love to see a redo on the AJ line but Doc's right. There just wouldn't be enough people to support it. If you look at the most recent successes in toys they all had TV or similar tie ins.

If you did an AJ video game and an animated show or comic book or something it might take off for a short run. JLU did well as long as the show ran then faded, Brave and Bold, same thing. Transformers got big when the movies hit and has held but if they don't do another movie it will fade to only the die hards and few new collectors will emerge. Most of the action figure lines in todays market are short term movie related deals. Once the movie fades so do the lines.

Unfortunately the imagination level of play disappears after the toddler level and usually ends up on a video game screen. The most successful lines today are directed at the very young. Fisher Price Little People, Super Hero Squad, even the JLU was toned down from their comic print counterparts. The really detailed, mean. looking figures are basically supported by the older collectors and not really for playing with. I really think today's youth misses out on a huge developmental experience without the whole imagination process fading so early in life.

AJ's sculpts were horrible. He looks like hes 90 years old and malnourished. I can live with that. Some of his outfits though. Let's watch AJ fish. That's a high energy playset. SHHHHH....you'll scare the fish.

It's not a doll it's an action figure.

You see, THIS sounds cool to me. I hear the word "charm" thrown around alot when describing vintage or new mego figures. Why? When I was a kid, I wanted stuff that looked COOL, not CUTE. I still collect with the same thought in mind. If this line were every trully considered for production, it would need to be geared towards children first, collectors second.

I think we should have Mego Museum contest...make your own AJ figure, or entire team?
