    AFA grading....

What are your thoughts on AFA graded toys?

I personally believe it has ruined the market for regular ungraded toys since people ask outrageous amounts for graded toys.

That being said, if you get something graded for your personal collection to keep nice and display, that is another story.

I've been told they've made a real difference in the star wars community and are widely accepted as the norm.

However, I've seen enough evidence to think they are a joke when it comes to Mego stuff.

I don't know one collector of higher grade Mego that gives a toss about them.

I agree. People go nuts for AFA graded Vintage Star Wars toys.

I ask because I sold this guy my entire Mego Star Trek line of toys for a good profit so I could acquire a line of super heroes toys, and he got the Aliens AFA graded and now on eBay he is asking an outrageous amount for them.

I find folks AFA grade the Mego 3 3/4" because of the crossover heat with Star Wars guys, especially Black Hole stuff. The asking price on the trek lot is from another planet.

I knew those Star Trek Megos would grade high if someone were to get them AFA graded, but the market for Star Trek is not what is used to be. No way they are worth that much

It's not that hard to get unpunched Ceppi Ratti Aliens IMO, they can be found for $200 and under. AFA will not escalate them into $1,000 pieces.

haha! If I knew I could buy a brand new car by getting my star trek megos afa graded and sold, I would have done it myself!

I have hated grading since sports cards brought it into the industry in the 90's. Then when it hit comics, I was mad. Overall, I like the case, but I could care less about having them graded by a "professional". I also like to be able to hold it. Pose it. :Gasp: sometimes, when no one is looking.....i play with them.

Because of the questions about the grading process, I now take my graded stuff and have the grading graded by a second professional and then placed inside a second case.

EXACTLY... And the seller passes on the cost of the "assessment" to the buyer. Total BS.

isnt it expensive to even get it graded? why would anybody just want to look at the figure an just be like on thats cool or u can just NOT get it graded and have them displayed like the wolfman fighting frankenstein or spidey agains the lizard that be so much better. i like holding my figures and stuff not just stairing in them as tho they where in a museum that u cant love

I was in the sports card market when the whole grading deal started. It took off like wild fire because everyone thought the grading system was fair. It wasn't. If you owned a large store that did huge volume on a regular basis you got better grading than a small store that did a lower number of items. I saw this on several occasions and there was even a situation where a card was graded by a smaller store and felt he had gotten a grade lower than the card actually was. The card was resubmitted through a larger dealer that did large volume and got a higher grade. Same grader different result. That was the end of grading in my opinion.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.
