The Lizard!! A review of the 1974/1975 T-1 and T-2

I wanted to see if there is interest in doing a short review of our MEGO figures in a single thread. We have read the books and scoured this forum back and front. This is one of the greatest places on the planet when learning about these awesome nearly 40 year old gems!

I will give a quick intro for those who do not know me. I have been a MEGO collector since I was 8 years old. Like many of us, these figures were a huge part of my life growing up. I remember in 1985 still seeing MOC MEGO Hulk figures with broken knees going for $2.99 at Toys R Us. What still startles me is it feels like yesterday!

While the Hulk was cool (broken legs and all) I was always looking for the Lizards and Green Goblins...I am sure I was not alone

I want to start this review off with the Lizard T-1 and T-2 from my collection. For reference, you can find the full history of the Mego Lizard in "Worlds Greatest Toys" by Benjamin Holcomb p-167-170

Please feel free to post pictures of your lizard for comparison

Another oddity noticed is the height difference

I am curious if anyone else has found some similar oddities with their lizards. Another thing to mention is that the lizard had a mis-colored leg, with no real evidence of repair.

      One of my favorites!

I'm not a huge T1 fan, but I like the scaled forearms on the earlier version.

I just got a Lizard for my collection the other day.... defiantly one of my favs! I never realized they released a T-1 version. How much rarer is the T-1?

I never had any of the WGSH as a kid, never even knew about them, but as soon as I got hooked, the lizard was on the top of my list. Love the whole mad scientist thing.

                Thanks for the kind words

It was my good friend Jerry (Jwiz on here) that turned me on to this version of the lizard. I like the T-1 because of the arm variation and larger feet as well.

The T-1 is a rarer version to acquire. I have only had one of the T-1 figures to date and many of the Type 2 versions. Both are awesome!

I am still trying to get a Lizard for my collection. Loved this thread. The T-1 version is way cooler. Great, the hardest one to find. :sigh: Thanks for posting.

He's the only known example with the flesh body. His eyes are painted different and has one side of the scale detail drawn in, so I'm pretty sure he was a factory sample/test. My educated theory is they needed to see of the legs and arms fit the existing pieces, so they used the flesh ones that were lying around. Only about half of the head has the scale detail drawn in, so it looks to me like they were just testing to see if it would need the detail added or not. I wish I could get the details of the auction I won him from and contact the person that sold him to me. I'd really love to know where they got it from!

The paint looks awesome on your figure. You have a true jem there!

I was looking to see if anyone had a carded example of this figure? I was also wondering if there were variants from one to the other?
