Hello all, My name is Brian . I live in NYC. I been a fan of Mego since I was 5 years old. I have been collecting on and off (Mego action figrues / Micronauts) for many years. I figured I would come to source for all things mego with a dilemma. I was at the NYC Comicon recently. I am always on the lookout for mego figures (Vintage) as well as Micronauts. I always come across this same vendor at the NY and Philly comicons. He is always at the Big Apple comicons also . I always find his prices to be a bit steep, and he himself to be a bit shady. I find it hard to price Mego without a price guide.
This time I noticed a 1979 Pin Pin Spiderman figure on the board with some bubble / board issues. The bubble was off the board just under SPIDERMAN on the board but not enough that the figure could be examined. Anywho , he figure looked great , I liked it , I took it home. There was a little tearing of the board underneath Spidermans head under the bubble. (So I got a little daring and gently prodded the bubble seal to give just enough to slip Spiderman out . I figured the way the paper on the board was torn would not hurt the price if it was a hair more. The bubble gave way without any more damage at all. This Spiderman character that was conveyed to me to be the true one from the packaging had two broken knee pins. Can a Mego figures legs break on their own in the packaging ? This Pin Pin Spiderman on the Board read 1979. The Spiderman body was 1974. Did Mego recycle older body styles ? (or did I get hoodwinked?) The Suit Spiderman was wearing had 2 small paper tags that read "MADE IN CHINA" ... Would a toy from France have it's parts made in china? I think I was sold a "frankenstein Spiderman from spare parts What say you all? ... I'm afraid I have not done my homework in my amateur collecting ...I think by joining this chat room I will learn how to be a better collector. any input would be appreciated.
