There will be additional adjustments to the paint! Thanks to everyone on this thread for your suggestions.
Jason has posted a new Bigfoot prototype image and details about its size at the blog. It looks like there has been some (recommended) adjustments to the paint.

Some figures will have bionic elements, some won't. Because we are thrilled to used the EMCE bodies, we will be taking a creative approach to bionics if they make sense. Also, at this early stage of development, all of our costs are unknown. By the time pre-orders begin later in the year, we should have more details about the inclusion of bionic elements.
Bigfoot is a good example. Since our figure's fur is soft and not sculpted, we can't just make a part that comes off his belly to reveal the bionics.
There are many good suggestions floating around on these message boards. While we can't answer each question or comment, know that we are actively here. Our overall plans are flexible and are indeed shaped (when possible) by you, our loyal customer base. Your insights are fantastic - and points of changes and improvements are also appreciated. If we added everything that you wanted, however, the price for these figures would be much greater than $20 retail. Our internal challenge is that we must balance authenticity and playability with issues such as costs and price points, as well as satisfying Universal Studios and large retailers. Basically, we need to make "most" people along the supply chain happy! And that's not an easy task. We've done it before, and we plan to do it again. Nothing will be perfect, and there will always be complaints and room for improvement. We just know that we have every desire to make the best products possible given the realities of what we do.
And - the biggest point here? I grew up playing with Mego and Kenner toys and I watched The Six Million Dollar Man and Battlestar Galactica growing up. We are not a faceless large toy company. We are fans FIRST and businessmen as well.

I think it's great that options for bionic elements in these figures is being explored... but, in my opinion, they aren't completely necessary. I'd love to see some sort of nod to the fact that these characters are supposed to have robotic limbs and parts, but I don't think they need to be "play features" like they were on the Kenner toys.
Let's face it, these are based on the type of figures that Mego was producing, at the time, and not necessarily the Kenner figures. I'm sure BBP wants to give a healthy dose of homage to those Kenner figures, but ultimately, they also have to stay true to want Mego might have done with this license and also stay within the restrictions of the 8" Mego format. If there are too many features, we may be crying foul, later on, that these aren't "Mego" enough. I will be happy with any play features that happen to be implemented but will be just as happy if these are mostly just base-body Megos in the likeness of the characters. After all, Mego wouldn't have given us much more than that...Last edited by Delusional B; Oct 26, '11, 1:25 PM.Comment

I highly doubt Mego would have done any sort of removable module back in the day.
Creating new arm and leg molds, which they couldn't re-use on other figures, doesn't really follow their financial or production models we know about.
Even Fonzie, as a one-shot character, was based off the OMBC body.
My guess is that if Mego even acknowledged the bionics, it would be a sticker on the arms and legs.

Since 99.9% of the people that are going to buy these are going to be adults I don't think any bionic features are necessary -- considering the figures are going to sit on a shelf full clothed for display.
Most important thing is the headsculpt/paintjob and suit.Comment

I think they should have a sound chip and make the bionic noise! That is a "play" features adults can love.Comment

I've been thinking the same thing, although it probably wouldn't be feasible to place the sound chip inside the figures. An easy alternative would be to have the chip inside a base or some type of accessory (similar to what McFarlane did for the Austin Powers figures).Comment

Here are some of the classic sound FX, in case anyone wants to make their own custom soundchips:

Hey, that would be amazing! I've seen those birthday cards with a small chip embedded in them to play a sound or quote. Imagine if the SMDM had one beneath his shirt on his back that you could trigger to make the bionic sound as he leapt off something. Better yet, a few strategically placed ones that mimicked various sounds, such as the eye, etc. I don't think this is practical at all, but it is a fun idea. I bet somebody could customize one with all the diverse talents of this community brought to bear.
Meanwhile, it seems to me the input that fans are having on some of these figures is unprecedented. Mr. Lenzi, like Dr. Mego and many others, are being remarkably patient and generous with our suggestions. In the end, they can't please everyone, but they are doing their best to try. It's really impressive.Comment

I can't tell you how excited I am for Bigfoot after seeing this last pic. Man, I'm sooo happy it's the mego dream-team making him.Check out my website: Megozine Covers - HomeComment

That's a great idea. We can add our own circuit board just as easily as having BBP do it. Plus, we can customize it to our obsessive heart's content. If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.Comment

Each time I see him I want him more and more. Will they make Jamie and the Fembots, I wonder?Last edited by SoMuchFun!; Oct 27, '11, 12:20 PM.Comment
