The MegoMuseum Interview with Tory Mucaro : Mego R & D

"I'll never forget the day they came to me with the Torino from Starsky and Hutch and asked me if I could make it look like the General Lee!"

Tory Mucaro has one of the more unqiue stories when it comes to his tenure at Mego, hired by John McNettwhile still in high school, he learned his trade at the Mego research and development department.

Tory was kind enough to share with us some of his recollections about those happy times and by doing so revealed many things not known about Mego. He has also graciously provided photographs of his many projects for us to enjoy. Check out the Megomuseum interview with Tory Mucaro, it's sure to be one your favourites.

Fun read. I would have loved to have seen the CB McHaul line turned into a BJ & the Bear line.

I am surprised you're not crushed about the diecast Captain America.

Could you imagine the uniqueness for any of the more intense
70s superhero toy collectors to have that one CAPTAIN AMERICA sculpt
for the diecast figure that was never produced?

          Pretty cool to think about.

Above: Tory provides us with a photo of the prototype for the Mego Enterprise model that he worked on.
Only a prototype - it's enough to make a Mego collector and model maker cry.

Finding that sculpt or just seeing it would probably be the ultimate Mego high for me! Given that the sculptors were also associated with the Aurora figures I'm sure that it would have been the best Cap figure ever!

Possibly the best interview any former employee has given. I enjoyed reading it alot. I guess because it was his first job and left an impression he remembers everything as though it happened yesterday. I'd love to see pictures of anything he has, I hope he digs them up one day.

Unless my math is wrong, he and I are the same age. That's mind-boggling.

How cool would it have been if they did do female Micronauts like in the interview?

                        Another great interview, Brian.
You know, all those interviews combined would make a great book on the history of Mego

                          Great read Brian!

It must be exhilarating listening first hand to the answers being given and wondering if you are about to uncover amazing new facts or solve 30-year old mysteries! As much of a rush (if not more) as making a great toy find in itself.

The most amazing part of this interview for me was that Tory bought up CB McHaul before you did!

                          Cheers,

I was checking him out through google and he still does some incredible sculpts. I just emailed him to see if I could send a could toy packages to get signed.

I would love to see a pic of that "General Lee" Torino! Great stuff. The Moonraker stories were great too!
