Will new retro mego like figures bring down value of original megos?

I was in T R US the other day looking at new action figs and noticed a few of those mego retro figs were sitting there and just wondered if they would devalue old megos. I wouldnt think they would because anything original and out of production should hold near value. BTW some of the new green lantern movie figs and cap am figs look pretty cool w packaging and sculpts.

I certainly think in the past such reproductions such as Classic TV's range of Space 1999, Knights, Westerns and Pirates have hurt the value the originals. When a exact replica is made, it can be a major headache to spot reproduction parts, especially from a jpeg.
The recent Re Mego is a different animal, as these are newly sculpted figures with new accessories which can only bring new interest to Mego.

When they don't look anything like the originals, I think that keeps prices in check. It's when they start doing exact replicas, the secondary markets take a hit. The only Mego figure I have seen decline as a result of the Retro series is Green Arrow. And that's because the new one looked alot like it, only better. That reduced demand on the original in various grades. Obviously the carded and boxed samples remain high. But loose ones have dropped quite a bit from what I have seen. But remember, market values will always fluctuate whether a new line is out or not. Look at Spider-man. His prices have been steadily rising for the past six months. When the demand is met, he will likely go back down in price. It will always vary. Timing is everything when it comes to Megos.

I picked up my Space 1999 figures at the exact WRONG time. They were at the height of their value and once the reproductions came out, they fell like crazy. Unfortunately, I bought them at a time when I actually had some money to burn and was going through my "Collect 'em ALL" phase. When I decided that I really needed the money more than I wanted the figures, I started looking up the going prices on ebay and I really felt the sting.

I probably paid too much for the Knights and Western guys around the same time, but I really like those figures, so I don't feel as bad about it...and I got pretty good deals (for the time) on most of those guys. Plus, their fall in value wasn't as severe as the Space 1999 guys (which I paid full going price for).

Yep, I wondered about the 1999 figures as well.. I only had minty, loose vintage Carter and Koenig figures from 10yrs ago. I was able to get a nice mintly vintage Morrow for a decent price last year thanks to the retro-figures flooding the eBay auctions.

The biggest boon for me (like most) was to have accurate costuming for customizing.. It's great to have my Koenig out of his white outfit and have him in a more accurate space suit (see my Gallery pics) with extras..

Also great for Year 2 customizing as well..

I've noticed this, too, and I have to laugh. The vintage GA is still the superior figure, IMO.

I'm still trying to figure out why the original Knights,Pirates and Western dropped. I can see the ones that came on Type 2 body in Europe doing so but not the Type 1s.

I think that regardless of the body type, with the repro figures going for about $5 in the box there for a while, it's tough to compete. A lot of times people were just missing the accessories (which are the same for T1 and T2). Buying a boxed repro knight for $5 and finishing off all of the parts for your T1 would have made all of those vintage T1 knights on ebay worth less to the collectors who already had the knight and just needed the other bits.
