          I've never quite understood why pointless filler articles like that where generally every "fact" is somehow mangled even exist. All they do is spread misinformation. James Bond was the first action figure based on a TV series or film; tell that to William Boyd or anyone connected with The Lone Ranger ... and there are probably even earlier examples than that!

            Hmmmm....

            I think part of the problem with articles like this is that they're covering a vast amount of history, in a few paragraphs. Case in point, for a proper academic article you should probably define "action figure" right off. Sure GI Joe is considered the first MODERN action figure but most, but there were tons of merchandaise from WAY before Joe. Popeye, Superman.... tons of stuff. So; do paper dolls count as action figures? Puppets? That weird wooden Superman from prehistoric times?
